Heads up: New RMWG server

greenspun.com : LUSENET : DON Records Management Working Group : One Thread

Everyone, John and Charlie have offered us a new discussion format that will make it easier for us to manage the site. We'll have the options of deleting unwanted or dated posts, or archiving posts to folders for a period of time to get them off the main page and thus reduce the clutter. This will allow us to look at the most recent posts without having to plough through all the stuff that's out there now.

Folder titles can be set by us, and the site will let us get into them and look at individual documents if we need to refer to something that was on the page last week, for example.

I think Charley and John would prefer that we maintain this site ourselves, and for the time being, I'll try to do that. I think we'll start out by keeping all posts three days. We'll then delete admin. or housekeeping items )like Margit's DSN queries and responses, for example). Questions, responses, comments, or other topical discsssion items about the group's work will be archived to folders and kept for an additional period of time (don't ask how long, because I don't know yet)

This site's going to look a little different from the old one, and there will be different passwords and so on, but the bottom line is that this is a tool, provided to us by our IT support group at the CIO office to facilitate our work, and we need to learn to use it. That may put some additional pressure on us on top of everything else we have to do, but hey, we can handle it, right?

If you have any questions about the new format you might try me first, and if I don't have the answer, I'll refer you to John Spann. I must say a word or two here of thanks for the excellent level of support John and Charlie are providing us. They've been extremely helpful. They have seen that we are already making considerable use of the RM comment and discussion website and they're doing everything they can to support our needs.

Dean
