Video sales...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TitanicShack : One Thread

I went to a few video stores today just to check out how it's doing. The line was REALLY long this morning. At 5 pm, it's still going. I asked one of the sales person how many copies did they sell and he said 300 or more. That's for ONE store. If anyone know the total copies sold today, would you please post it here. Thanx.

Hey Rose.. I don't know if you noticed but the places that I went to people were buying not only one but two copies of the movie, the wide screen and the regular version. So this might affect whatever projected video sales were....

ICE BERG RIGHT AHEAD!!!!!!

I did that myself...

I bought 2 widescreen versions. Only recently when watching "2001: A Space Odessey" did I realize how superior it can be.

When it gets released down under I'll only be buying the widescreen version.

Gee... a friend of mine just called and said she bought 2 copies. One, she keep for her own enjoyment. The other one for friends who want to borrow.

When I get my copy, I will not let it out of my house.

Same here Rose, there's no way my Titanic video (when I finally get a copy) will be leaving my front door. If they want to watch the movie that bad they can either buy their own copy, hire it out for the evening, or watch it with me. Do I sound a tad b!tchy yet?

So far, I've got three copies of the video. I preordered one copy of each version at my local Blockbuster so that I could get all their freebie items. Then I bought a 2nd pan & scan version at a local music/video retailer whose manager has promised to let me have one of the video displays, a poster, and several of the smaller signs. I'll keep one in mint condition and watch the other. Still not sure whether I'll open the widescreen one now and buy another copy to put away unopened. Despite having bought these three copies (and picking up my Blockbuster order at midnight Monday), I still haven't watched the movie on video. I'm debating whether to just go see it again at the theatre while it's still available there (15 viewings so far) or maybe watch the pan & scan at home and then see it again on the big screen. Anyone know how long the movie might stay in the theatres??

15 times, Kathleen! You passed me! Is it now 2nd to "Gone with the Wind" for you? I remember long ago you told me "Titanic" was only in your top 10 of all time. Are you a victim of hype? We're probably all victims of hype to some extent; this site, including my own remarks, generate it. Because I heard just a couple positive things about it on opening day, and saw it twice that weekend, I can honestly say it became my all time favorite after that second viewing, and I was part of the hype machine rather than a "victim" of it. But, heck, if it took a few viewings for it to become your 2nd favorite, I'll allow you into the Hype-Generation Club.

Yes, I have to admit it!! "Titanic" has moved into the #2 spot following behind "Gone With The Wind." I really look at "Titanic" as the GWTW of the 90s and maybe even the 2nd half of the 20th century in terms of being a movie creating (or really continuing) a phenomenon. Right from the first time I saw Titanic, I knew that it was very much like GWTW in both content and impact. My comparison list numbers about 50 items in common. So for this entire year, I have been building a Titanic collection, comprising newspapers and magazines, programs, promotional items, photos, books, videos, etc. Of course, it has a long way to go before it can compare to my GWTW collection, but nonetheless it is fairly comprehensive....and it's been a lot of fun!!! Hey, I've met people like you online. I'm keeping in touch with maybe a half dozen people who share the interest. That in itself is a reward. Even a couple of my "Windie" friends have become "Titanicized" with me. It's been great...riding the Titanic wave this year!!!

That was sweet, Kathleen, thanks. I feel like this site is my second home (as sick as it may sound to some), and we're all one big happy, diverse family. Haha! I meant that seriously, but 'diverse' is a nice spin when I think of recent additions like George III.

I'm sorry to abuse this site tonight (made a million comments, most of which were not very insightful)! Forgot to say to Kathleen that I actually thought she was "Michael" on George's thread. So polite and articulate the contributor was!
