The image seems dull. What was the lighting.

This composition is begging for a vertical format. Focus looks very soft, even for posted images.

The lighting is nice and looks like it has a good color balance for a shot done in the shade - one of the Fujichromes, I'd guess, but probably not Velvia or Provia.

I took this photo at the tale end of a clouded sunset so the conditions were very dark. The film is Provia II pushed 1 stop. I had a very difficult time matching the scan to the slide. I am still working on my digital skills. Thanks for your comments. ~Jim~

Frank's comment above about the vertical composition is on the mark. There's a strong implied motion upward here. It's essential that the orientation of the frame echo that motion rather than compete with it, and there needs to be space above the flower for it to "move into."
