Forming survivalist groups

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Has anyone consider forming survivalist groups that would band together when this whole thing goes down? I really feel this will be nessasary in the future. After all 2 sets of eyes is beter than one, therefore; the more the beter. these groups could be comprized of people with various types of profesions, like Doctors, Teachers, chemists, carpenters, people with hunting&fishing knowlege, etc. A basic cross section of people that would work together to insure each others wellbeing.

I live in San Diego,CA. and would love to talk with anyone who is likeminded,or has any imput on this Idea

In other words, Kelly, you advocate Balakanizing ourselves into mutually antagonistic groups, setting the stage for Civil War? Just checking. How about people coming together in their communities, facing this catastrophe together? Now, wouldn't that be better? Or are you just looking for an excuse or opportunity to fight?

I agree with you, Scott. People who try to look after themselves, without relying on the benificence of the state, are by their actions undermining the authority of our Federal Government. In time of emergency they should be "discouraged" from such activity, and punished severely if they persist in their radical separatism. We'll all be better off if we just do what we're told, by experts who, after all, know better than we do. Isn't that the spirit of humility that made America great?

E. Coli... you completely misconstrued what I said. (Maybe that's my fault.) I am in no way advocating falling back on the government or their assurances. I don't trust them either. What I am saying is taht forming splinter group sbased on secrecy and antagonism is not the solution either. I believe we need to pre government, corporations, and all others in positions of power to come clean about what is going on, and come together AS LOCAL COMMUNITIES, instead of cutting and running. Cutting and running will not work in the end, I guarantee it.

That said, I agree with a great deal of what you have said (the things I've read, anyway). Trust me, I am just as pessimistic as you.

best, scott

To everyone who read my last posting, I would like to go on record stating that I do not advocate violence or violent solutions. I do believe that we live in a society that is very easily fragmented by race, religion, etc. I also do not consider myself a racist. I am, however, concerned for what the future may hold. What I suggest is a broad cross section of society working together, regardless of color, religion, race, or national origin. We all can contribute.

As far as relying on the federal government to cure all of the problems that may occur: I think we should keep in mind that a large portion of the federal government is not even addressing the problems at hand. Not to mention, the government has a hard time paving roads, much less solving forgotten computer language.

Feel free to write back with any input.
