This is a very nicely exposed shot of the birds. I like that both birds are in dramatic action; neither has wings down, both with wings up.

Unfortunately the left bird is not completely in the photo. This lowers the overall shot a couple notches.

I like the tonal balance in this shot. The dark "crane outlines" are quite evident against the hot glare of the water. One minor thing: it would have been nice to see the entire body of the crane on the left. The lines of his/her feathers are very interesting. Also, he is the only one looking "into the frame." If you cropped him out it might be stronger, except then your only subject is staring at the edge of the frame. As I am typing this, I see that someone else said basically all of this, but anyway, nice shot.

Ouch! Great shot if only that left bird were in ( or out).

The left bird also seems to be in sharper focus.

I will agree with everything said about the left bird. I would add that this is a Very nice exposure and focusing.

Very nice, but what to do about the left cane? Cropping it out completely won't help because the image would becom etoo unbalanced. I suggest to crop part of this bir, leaving only head, neck and part of the body (about the first 4 or 5 top feathers). While at it you could correct the sloping horizon and end up with a spectacular print.

Nice shot of a difficult subject. When I have seen Sandhill cranes they are always in an open field, and impossible to get close enough to with my 300mm, so I'm a little more tolerant or the problems mentioned above, since I have attemped and failed at decent images before.

I second Brad's motion.
