Too much contrast IMO. The missed opportunity here is the leaves. That star like pattern demands attention. The bud, hanging limply, just can't compete.

I have to disagree with Paul. the sadly hanging bud and the star pattern form a nice contrast to each other. I would crop off the right black edge to make it one long vertical print with the flower in the center.

I find the subject interesting and suggest that image would be strengthen by using one of the available techniques for isolating the subject from foreground & background. These techniques are described in John Shaw's "Closeups in Nature." It's a popular book so your local library may have a copy. The lighting is also quite harsh. A translucent plastic sheet place between the subject & the sun would soften the light (reduce the constrast) and allow the film to record the details of the plant. Thanks for giving us the scientific name. Does it have a common name?
