a baby on the way

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

im a christian that's been aware of y2k for about 6months. i 1st heard about it from chuck missler of calvary chapel. i have done enough homework to know that the more i learn, the worse things look. my wife and i have been married a little over 2 years, and are now expecting our 1st child (praise Jesus for both). obviously, my concern has a new focus....what, if anything, can i do to prepare for a newborn in april 1999. i want to plan for the worst, and hope/pray for the best. i realize my job (GTE) and our current way of life is totally at risk. we are thinking about getting a manufactured home (due to budget) somewhere towards the country. we live in dallas, tx, w/the in-laws after a recent move from new mexico. all comments and suggestions are appreciated! thanx

Accumulate as much cash as you can between now and 2000. Stay with the in-laws and save, save, save.

Stockpile as much food and water (get a few good H2O filters too, see your local camping store for ideas) as you possibly can. This includes formula and powdered milk, but breast-fed babies are healthier as a rule anyway, so let the little bugger suckle as long as your wife is willing. In many cultures infants breast feed for a long, long time.(years)

Get out of Dallas proper and into the sticks.

Delay the home purchase untill after 2000 as real estate prices will fall, caveat: prices in the sticks will fall less. IMHO you would be better off putting the down payment into gold.

Find a country doctor who is aware of the situation, and see if he will lay in a supply of needed vaccinations and antibiotics for the kid. Ignore the pampers and get some real diapers and lots of powered bleach to mix with water, for sterilization.

Talk to people of like mind and situation at church, what are their plans? Perhaps you will find someone you can band together with.

Learn about growing a garden and have the stuff to do it with.

Come on ladies, what am I missing, what with me being a guy and all.

I read in other site that people have went to second hand shops and bought clothes in larger sizes. You can also buy balnkets as I have and other materials there for baby and yourselves.
