Toshiba PDR-M1 a little yellow?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I love the image comparision your site has. In it, I notice that the interior shots from the Toshiba seemed to have a yellow hint to them. The Canon A5 seemed even more so. Any ideas?

Yes: The indoor shots are all taken under standard household tungsten lighting, so people can see how well the cameras handle such strongly-tinted illumination. Some of the cameras auto white-balance circuitry takes out the color cast entirely, some mostly, others not all. The PDR-M1 and Canon A5 tend to leave a little bit of the original cast in there. How much is correct? Depends on your personal preference. I tend to prefer a little of the original cast in the image, to reflect the "mood" of the original lighting. Others prefer a completely neutral color cast. Essentially all of the cameras (the PDR-M1 and A5 included) are removing MOST of the original color cast: Tungsten lighting is unbelievably more yellowish than it appears to our eyes - try taking a shot with 35mm slide (not print) film under tungsten lighting sometime, and you'll see what I mean...
