Agfa 1280 vs. Toshiba PDR-M1--a couple of questions

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

When will the Agfa1280 review be completed? Based on my preferences and price points, I've narrowed my search to these two cameras.

Also, will both cameras be compatible with higher-RAM SmartMedia cards?

Thank you for already publishing one of the few Toshiba PDR-M1 reviews around. Without it, I'd be down to the Agfa only already.

One last thing--if anyone has experience with both, please email me with any advice or comments!

Apologies for the perpetual "coming soon" on the 1280 review. Agfa's apparently been waiting until the release of the 1680 to decide what to do with their cameras on our site. I'm hopeful we'll have a resolution by ~the first week of September, and still hopeful that that resolution will include the 1280.

As far as I know, being an earlier design, the 1280 is limited to 8 MB SmartMedia. (Still a very respectable memory size though - I've only been using 4 MB cards in my Oly 600 since I got it last spring.) The 1680 will definitely work with 16MB cards though, and the PDR-M1 also. Essentially any new SmartMedia-based devices you see coming out from here on will support 16MB (and should support all the way to 64MB).

Hope this helps, wish us luck for finally getting Agfa off the dime!
