I recently heard from a friend that there was a map which show how the entire power grid connects between states. Has anyone seen this map or know where to find it?

There's two good maps that I'm aware of:

http://www.yardeni.com/public/y_19971208.pdf (note that you will need the adobe reader for this one)

Many thanks Rick. Both maps are helpful though I'm not entirely certain how to read the map with interconnecting lines. Does Texas connect only to the region above it? What if the region above went down? Is there any way to determine the interdependencies between regions? There must be some detailed map that elaborates even more. At least that's what I hope for. Rick how do you determine whether an area is "looking good" (compliant) or not?
