purchasing

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am thinking of purchasing my first digital camera... either a Sony Marvica 7000 or an Olympus 340L.

My primary buying considerations are: 1. ease of use - especially for getting images on the internet 2. quality of images 3. size and design

Thanks for you help!

If internet use is your primary concern, image quality may not matter too much. Beyond that, you're going to see an *enormous* difference in image quality between the Oly 340 and the Sony Mavica, which is only a "VGA" level device (640x480). (oops - I notice you said Mavica 7000 - is this a new, rumored megapixel model? The current model numbers are something like FD-71, etc.) As to size and design, the 340 is MUCH more compact than the Mavicas, since it doesn't have to carry around a floppy drive inside it. For ease of import, you may want to consider getting the Olympus "FlashPath" floppy-disk adapter for SmartMedia - you can just pop it into the floppy drive on your computer to read the images (with appropriate driver software, of course).
