Looking for Whitcomb traction motor

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Shortline, Narrow Gauge and Industrial Railroading : One Thread

Greetings all! I am looking to replace a traction motor in a 45 ton center-cab, narrow gauge (3 foot spacing) Whitcomb locomotive. Anyone know of a source for these or perhaps a long neglected locomotive that can be used for parts? I do not know, for instance, if the traction motors are the same style or type for the narrow gauge locomotives as for the standard gauge. The one we need is a Westinghouse model 1443A. Please e-mail with thoughts and/or comments re this search. Regards from Honolulu, Hawaii

Yes 1443A was used in both Std and Narrow Gage service. Whitcomb produced 247 locos that used this traction motor. Possible sources include: cn 61189 Steel Stlye Shipyard, Newburgh NY o/s a few years cn 60742 IMC Agrico #101, Hopewell FL canabalized 12-98 cn 60398 Schnitzer Steel, Portland OR o/s in 1999 cn 60398 Midwest Central RR, Mt Pleasant IA, on display cn 60103 Manistique Pulp & Paper, Manistique MI o/s 11-97 Good Luck, please let me know how you make out. I can tell you about the other 242 Whitcombs. I only choose the most likily to produce a motor. These same motors were used by others like Plymouth, Porter etc
