When did CofG start painting locos the dark green Frisco style, and which units were painted? Up to what year did these colors last?

I'd like to know which CG unit was the "first" painted in the green scheme. The May '59 CG magazine states that 14 units had been painted (in the green scheme - presumably) and features 810 on the cover.

Painting records show that 113, 137, 153, 112, 903, 905, 131, 810, 102, 140, and 904 (along with 35 which would be in the switcher black scheme) were painted between January and April, 1959.

So, that would include 123 and 159 which were painted in November '58 and 157 which was painted in December '57 were the other three units cited in the article. The only green unit to be painted in May '59 was 101; along with 6 and 29 which would have been in the black scheme.

How much "lead time" was required by "The Right Way" magazine? In October '58, units 108, 116, and 118 were painted; blue and gray, or green?

Regardless, the painting must have begun in 1958.

Shop records indicate that no units were painted in June or July '59. The next two units to be painted were 152 and 901 in August '59. In September '59 a very special paint job was done: CG 509.

The "Pullman Green" paint scheme started in 1959 and continued untill the merger in 1963. Not all units were repainted this color. If I can get enough response I'll start a list of know locomotives repainted in this scheme. Todd Horton
