I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE OVAL SHAPED HOLE IN THE VERY FRONT OF THE SHIP IS FOR AND WHY IT IS THERE

Hi Andy: The hole in the bow of the ship was a hawse pipe for the third, or auxillary, anchor that lay on the deck. The chain would be run through this opening and then attached to the anchor. The anchor would then be picked up by the crane on the foredeck and lowered. This opening could also be used in a towing situation.
