Desperate for your review on the Kodak DC260. I can't decide between the Nikon and the Kodak

There are reviews on the web. Also try looking at the material at www.trix.com. He has a DC260 section. I chose the DC260 for a couple of reasons. One, the Nikon has only the LCD for a viewfinder, I believe. The DC260 has an optical viewfinder and the LCD although the LCD is not considered good for a viewfinder if there is movement. More importantly, the Nikon listed resolution is said to be achieved only by interpolation. I have had an 800 x 1000 and felt it was a few pixels shy. So far I am quite pleased with the DC260.

The review *should* be up! If you go to our digital cameras index page (click on the words "digital cameras" in the nav bar on the left), you'll find a list of all the cameras on the site. Next to the entry for the DC260, there's a link to "review." Click that and you'll be there.

We're just in the process of re-shooting our test images (arrgh), because our first pictures were taken with a unit having a bad sensor. Currently, the "House" and "Musicians" photos are with the new unit. Shots of the res target, "davebox" and "far field" shot taken with the new unit should be posted by the end of tomorrow. (8/6)

Both cameras take great pictures. I'd give the nod to the Kodak on color, the Nikon on sharpness and clarity. Check the images in the "Comparometer" and decide for yourself.

Good Luck!

PS: The material Steve H. has posted at www.trix.com is excellent! His FAQ on the DC260 is one of the most complete and readable I've ever seen.

The Nikon (I think you were referring to the CP900) does have an optical viewfinder.

The review of the DC260 is NOT accessible right now (8/6/98 11:00 am Singapore/Taipei time-zone).

I'm really looking forward to this one.

Could you guys at imaging-resource also do a review of the MX-700/MX-500 by Fuji ? Please please please ???/

My response, which is the first above, is in error. It is a similar looking camera the Agfa 1280 which has no optical viewfinder and claims 1280 x 960 which is 1024 x 768 interpolated. The Nikon ColorPix 900 has a true 1280 x 960 as well as an optical viewfinder. The August edition of Digital Camera at p. 63 says in its review that the Nikon ColorPix 900 is the closest thing to the ideal digital camera under $15,000. Unfortunately they had not yet seen the DC260. Why don't you add a message telling us how you decided?

Zeesh! Thanks for pointing out a *STUPID* error on my part! The review for the 260 was actually posted ~3 weeks back, but not properly linked into all our pages! (It looks like you could get to it from some places, not others.) You should have no trouble accessing it now. Thanks very much for calling our attention to the review's "missing in action" status! (We'll probably tweak the review a bit after we get done fiddling with the production unit we have in-hand for testing, so you may want to check back again in a week or so to see if there's anything new. (I'd like to play with the scripting a bit if I get a chance, as that's a pretty unique feature.)
