Is "Titanic" the benchmark for your movies now?

Every movie I see now I can't help but measure it up to "Titanic", regardless of the genre. (Actually, I've seen very few other movies since around the time of the Academy Awards.) The best movie I've seen since Titanic and "Goodwill Hunting" is "Saving Private Ryan," but even during one of the non-action parts of the movie I was thinking, "Titanic is better because...." Are any of you also comparing everything to Titanic?

No, because I would drive myself crazy. I compare the current "Titanic" to other movies made about them same subject (like...it was difficult to get through the original "A Night To Remember" because I was spoiled by the special effects of Cameron's version). I compare war movies to other war movies, comedies to other comedies, etc.

Well, that's grounds for a divorce. Just read in the paper that Joel Siegel can't wait to see Saving Private Ryan a third time! How can he stomach it? (no pun intended, for those who've seen it)

All married couples are bound to have disagreements, but I don't think you need to divorce me cuz I don't compare all movies I see to "Titanic". Play fair, Mr. Gregorio!:) Here's what I'm saying: "Titanic" is it's own entity, as is "Gone With the Wind", "Forrest Gump", "Star Wars", "Schindler's List", etc. I can't compare something I consider to be beyond greatness in film making to all other films. It's not exactly fair. These are some of the cream of the crop to me, and they have their own special place in my personal Utopia. Everything else is icing. K? Are we reconciled now, you moody little man? :) XO

And by the way...how come you have a trillion different e-mail addresses??? Does not compute...

BobG: I'm not sure I would have the intestinal fortitude to take in another viewing of Saving Private Ryan. But I'd give my right arm to see Titanic again. Hang on to it though, maybe it could be reattached later....

Gilded, I'm just being creative with the email addresses. Will you stifle my creativity, woman?! Strike two! Dan, this dark humor of ours better stop. Some veteran is gonna lecture us shortly!

Of course I wouldn't stifle your creativity, BobG. I was just confused, cuz the first message I left here I attempted to make up an e-mail address and I got this big error message lecture. Sigh. Machines just don't like me...

Good point, BobG. As a pre-emptive strike may I just say I have the most solemn appreciation for those who have fought and died in the service of our country, in WWII and all other wars. I meant no disrespect.

I can't believe I am so slow at getting all of Dalton's jokes and word-plays. "Pre-emptive strike"...you're so clever. Move over, Barbara. Hello, Dan. Signed, Unimagineable Bastard
