Which NiMH batteries to buy?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

OK, I got my digital battery eater, er camera, and now I need some advise on whose NiMH batteries are the best buy. Yes Solar has some with a 1300 rating but hey are more expensive per KW than the quest 1200s. Yhey have a price comparison based on retail single quantity costs but I can get quest from CMPexpress for less. Has anyone compared these two brands or is there an even larger comparison somewhere? Quest works out to $2.60/KW while Yes is $2.8, not much of a difference but I'll be buying a few sets. I realise the Yes batteries will theoretically last about 8 percent longer but I'll be carring a few sets anyway.

tnx,

It would be hard to do better than the deal Battery City in LA is offering: TWO 1200mAh Toshiba AA NiMH batteries for $3.50! I've ordered a bunch myself for use in our testing, they work great, and the Battery City people seem to be nice folks, to boot. A tip though: They're very small, and tend to get swamped every Monday morning with people who saw them mentioned on the internet. Thus, mid- to late-week is best to get through, and make sure your order doesn't get lost in the shuffle. (I've so far only heard of one lost order, out of literally hundreds of people I've sent their way.) Oh yes... They seem to charge about $5-6 for UPS ground shipping, which several people have commented on as high. At the price they're charging for the batteries though, who can complain.

Just got my batteries from Battery City. Took about 6 days regular ground UPS. Charged 9.50 shipping to North Dakota. May be cheaper in America ;-). I wanted 8 batteries but they thought I meant 8 packages (of two) so you should make yourself clear on that. Not a big problem. Probably would have needed more anyway and that brings the per battery cost down when you figure shipping. --Rick

I just picked up some NEXcell NiMH AA batteries rated 1300mAh from Thomas Distributing (website at the bottom). They also just recently lowered their price. You can get them for $2.60 each, 6 or more for $2.50 each, 12 or more for $2.40 each, and 24 or more for $2.30 each. They also have a wall charger for $9.90 that will charge up to 4 batteries. Shipping is about average. I had to pay $7.95 to get them to California from Illinois.

I found them at http://nimhbattery.com/batteries.htm

Just want to add that NEXcells are the best performance batteries for me but if you care to try some others see http://members.xoom.com/ cp900/batteries/ for some info.

FWIW: I have had real good luck using the new Panasonic 1100 mAh Ni-cads. I found them at Meijer 2 AA's and charger for 19.95. The charger has a capacity of 4 AA's, or 4 AAA's, or 2 of either, or 2 of each. I use them in my D-320L and have had no problems. I recently took about 180 pictures with about 100 in a 2 hour period, with liberal use of the display with no problems. I found them first at Battery Barn on the net, but the price was not as good as Meijer. However, you can not get the 4-pack or the 2-pack of the batteries only at Meijer as of yet. Check out Andy Baird's report on these as well as others on the net at members.home.com/andybaird/batteries.html I think he lists another supplier there also. These are new and still kinda hard to find, but I think they will be worth you search.

I have been using 12 NexCell batteries that I have been using since November 1999 and love them. I use them for my portable 2.5" tv, walkman and digital camera. They are great. I got them from a seller at Ebay name ptron. Shop with a person who has great feedback, shipping rates and prices.
