How often do you read from Scripture? : LUSENET : Catholic Pages Forum : One Thread

How often do you pick up your Bible to read it? And, what translation do you use? Do you read anything in particular (eg, methodically read through the gospels, perhaps the daily readings, or just open and read wherever the Spirit inspires you to read)?

I use the Bible more as a reference work than a narrative... and I think it was made to be both. When the Spirit moves me, I do enjoy reading passages at a time, almost always from the New Testament.

As for versions, I usually read/refer to either the vulgate Latin itself, or the Knox Bible (the Catholic monsignor, not the protestant!), which is taken directly from the vulgate.

I find the King James hard to read... definitely harder to read than the Latin... but I enjoy the Revised Standard Version and other modern translations.

I enjoy the Latin or a vulgate translation most, probably, because it was translated early on, and by orthodox Catholics, not by a panel of Christian theologians belonging to various denominations.

I do reference the Bible itself more than read it, however I use the Douay for reading now and then. Most of my Scripture reading comes in the form of the "Office" Christian Prayer and the Lectionary. I study the sunday readings with a Methodist church each week.

I am a roman catholic seminarian and the only translation that I use is the Douay version, it is the version that was translated directly from St. Jeromes Vulgate, but I would trust the RSV. All the other translations have serious errors. E-mail me if you disagree.

I have a daily missal that my hubby bought me for Christmas, and I rarely miss using it, so you could say I read scripture daily, the readings and psalms of the daily cycle. Once or twice a month I will pick up the bible (New American Standard Translation) and basically look at the psalms and wherever else the spirit takes me.
