Female Fox Pup taken on the morning of July 4th at the Bear River Refuge. Taken with an N90s with a Tokina 400 5.6 Atx lens set at f8 on Velvia. This is a great place to get some good images of several types of wildlife.

Looks too contrasty to me. Probably due to shooting Velvia in sunlight. Nowadays I reserve said film for overcast days, shade, and shooting under a diffuser. Got tired of over-contrasty shots. Something like Sensia 100 and a tele-flash adapter for fill flash would have helped.

Great subject! I don't care much for the cropping/composition and the light-colored rock that predominates the background, though. The cropping is oppressively tight.

Hope you got a few more like this one and/or a negative with a bit more stuff in it.

1. Got tired of over-technical comments. That's not what nature photo is primarily about, I think.

2. A great picture, I think. This *is* a young fox. More, there is a mood, an expression. Well done!!!!!

I agree with Jana. This picture has a charm and immediate appeal to it that makes up for the less-than-ideal light. And I like the tight cropping; it accentuates the lean upright position of the fox.

I dissagree with the previous two comments. Yes te Fox is cute. The tight composition is nice. I think that is what you want on an animal protrait. However and animal protrait should also reveal the animal to the viewer. Because the photo is so contrasty I don't think it succedes in its intention. It would also be nice to have a little more sepparation from the background. Maybe some fill flash would help.
