greenspun.com : LUSENET : Electric Utilities and Y2K : One Thread

I am currently looking to speak to some Utilities executives that currently have contingency plans in place to fill possible speaker positions in an upcoming conference. Please email me or call me at 617-482-3258 x205 to discuss. Thank you.

Jennifer, Good luck in your search! According to a press release from U.S. Senator Bob Bennett (R-Utah) titled, "Y2K Committee Announces Survey Results Measuring Y2K Preparedness of Nation's Largest Utilities" the special Senate Committee on the Year 2000 found that "none of the utilities surveyed had completed contingency plans, for potential eventualities associated with the millenial date change". Check out http://www.senate.gov/~bennett/pr0612c98.html

Also, I spoke with the Director of Michigan's Emergency Mgmt Dept. and , essentially, he has this warm, fuzzy feeling that everything will be alright and that the only emergency management plans he has is to work to bring the systems back up if they are down. He could not give any facts to support the assertion that it would not be serious and long running, thus I call it a "warm, fuzzy".
