Product Photography - Camera Advice Needed

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I plan to use a digital camera to take photo's of books I publish. I need a camera that will fill the frame with a book showing some good detail... not a distant shrunken view.

Question? Is the Nikon 900 the way to go here or will the Olympus 340L good enough for taking pictures of books, and other small products about the size of soup cans to shotguns. ??

Our Trapshooting Web site is: http://www.cc.northcoast.com/~scrnplay

As you will see... we need photo's. We are using drawings of our books.

Your assistance will be appreciated!

Thanks.

Either camera will do a good job for the sort of photography you describe. The D-340L has a fixed wide-angle lens, with *very* slight barrel distortion (curvature of straight lines at the edges of the frame). The CP900 has a bit worse distortion at the wide-angle end of its range, but none at all at the telephoto end. Check our "viewfinder accuracy" or "resolution" test images to see how much distortion there is at the edges, and then judge whether it is acceptable to you.
