If the banking/credit system fails totally, what is likely to happen to students that received Federal student loans, if they can't repay Uncle Sam?

What if Uncle is paralysed or collapsed? I don't think I'd worry about not being able to pay. If even half of the predictions of bureaucratic meltdown occur, I don't think they'll be a-knocking at the indebted students doors.
