Can you put sergeants in imperial guard command squads

No, in the army list section of the codex it states that a command squad consists of 4 guardsman and a lieutenant.

In theory you cannot put sergeants in a command squad, but if you read the equipement list carrefuly you notice you can use as many assault weapons as you want. Isn't it a sergeant ?
