Will Pennsylvania have electricity in 2000?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Electric Utilities and Y2K : One Thread

I am concerned that Pennsylvania (70% dependent on nuclear power) will be dark and cold come 1/1/2000. PA seems to be more dependent upon nuclear power for electrity than any other state. I e-mailed PECO (pennsylvania electric co) about this problem and did not receive any response. The Pa. Public Utility Commission has assured me that they are "monitoring" the utilities they regulate and are committed to the continuing reliability of all utility systems in Pa. Is there anyway I can get any information about the status of Peco nuclear's y2k fixes?

No, there is no place you can get info on PP+L. They talk to no one about Y2K work

I am the 'nutcase' that wrote them several times, E-mailed them several times, and called them several times. What I got for my trouble is two short but informative private talks with a technician, followed by a letter that basicly said buzz off we are working on it.

Let me tell you my response to what little I learned. I bought a generator big enough to run my well pump, and we are making preparations to live comfortably WITHOUT electricity for an extended time.

After faxing news reports about utilities and Y2k (for eight weeks straight) the Lancaster news finally ran a front page story on Y2K, in the sunday News no less. No idea if my prodding helped at all. THe only mention they made of PP+L was to say they were going to spend a few million on it.

Personally, I am not looking for PP+L to do well.
