Y2k For Profit and Power

Why pay attention to Y2k? It's only a campaign issue or one to be used if you have a profitable item or service which will benefit from the scare tactics, right?? US News June 1,'98 said "Put Steve Forbes down as the first presidential hopeful to turn digital apocalypse into a campaign issue". You can't use a politition up for election as a credible source about Y2k now because they are only using it as a campaign issue, and we all know how credible anything said by a polititian is anyway! We can't use pastors, or religious leaders or their TV/radio shows as credible sources because they are just trying to convert us. We can't use the average Jo as our source because he's not an expert. We can't use experts because they are just out to make a buck. No one will really start listening to Y2k until the psychics at the Nat'l Enquiror tell us the facts. "50-foot alien 3-headed babies have vision of computer apocalypse encoded in a list of Liz Taylor's husbands."

Either that or you know there will be disruptions and are thus a zealot, or survivor, or both.

From what was presented on C-SPAN's Forum today, one might believe the lawyers are the ones who will reap a great harvest from this debacle with all kinds of lawsuits. My question: how will they when they can't get gasoline to run their cars, and even if they could, with all the microprocessors in their Mercedes, etc., "dead", they won't be able to start them to get to their offices. And there, the computers are all crashed, no heat or light, no place to go for a "power" lunch; the court houses are also dark, the judges, clerks, etc., can't even get into the inner sanctum because the door opening coders are caput. I loved your fantasy! Now, I have submitted mine!

Ah that Y2K was only a campaign platform. If you'd like to verify that you can call your local phone and power companies...and call your bank to see in what state their remediations are in. The go check out some of the factual information on some of the Y2K websites. Check out the recent address to congress by Rep. Bennett about the state of the power grid in the US.

Granted, some people are making money (I am not one of them, sadly) but mostly there are a lot of governmental and corporate Neros fiddling as Rome starts to heat up.
