WINSLET TO APPEAR AS BISEXUAL

Titanic star Kate Winslet is likely to appear as Daphne du Maurier in a film version of a controversial biography in which the novelist is depicted as a bisexual, the London Sunday Times reported. The newspaper said that Winslet has confirmed her interest in playing the role. Martyn Shallcross, who wrote the bio, is also working on the screenplay. He claims that among du Maurier's female lovers was the actress, Gertrude Lawrence. "The role will be a real test of Kate's acting abilities," he told the Sunday Times. Du Maurier's family has denounced the book.

Kate would be better off going the commercial route and taking the role in the upcoming film version of Phantom of the Opera. These small art house type films usually are long and dull.

I think Kate should stay true to the art of acting. She should take roles that are challenging and exciting for her and damn the monetary consequences. If she sells out, her talent will suffer. It's one thing to be Steven Seagal and do crappy money movies, it's totally another to be the very talented Kate Winslet doing the same. We'll miss her talent.
