Gary North's retreat

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I read the following on a Christian website today and am trying to verify the accuracy of it. If it's true, do you know where the retreat will be and the requiremnts for being part of it?

Thanks, Susan

Beginning of Quote: I don't know if your aware of it or not, but my father recently faxed me a 5 page letter from Gary North's organization stating how they had purchased land in another state in the south and are establishing a place where Christians can go to "escape" the coming world problems.

It's going to be a kind of "little town" that is totally self contained and seperate from everything and everyone else. I'm not saying that this is a cult as yet, but it does have the earmarks of one. As you know, our "escape" is the "blessed hope" of our Lord's return for those who are truly awaiting and "looking for" His appearing.

I doubt the veracity of the story. I have been a subscriber to Gary North's newsletters for a long time, I have read just about everything he has said about Y2K, and I have not heard or seen anything about this "little town."

In his "Remnant Review" newsletter, North did allow a fellow named Bob Rutz to insert a flyer advertising plans for a Christian community/retreat in Arkansas. But, it said clearly that North did not endorse the project. This may be the source of this spurious story.

BTW, North is not a cultist, nor does he have the earmarks of being one. :-)

gary north DOES WANT IT TO HAPPEN! he has stated, "of course I want this to happen, I've waited all my adult life for this to happen". I'm not ready to say he has a "cult" a'working, but it does sound like him. I wouldn't discount it.

No, Gary North is *not* a cult leader. If anything he's an odd sort of Christian philosopher...nothing more nor less than that...and as noted the information posted by Susan turned out to be an unwitting distortion.
