Rumor, I think. This one makes the rounds from time to time -- sometimes an island, sometimes a decomissioned aircraft carrier -- but as far as I know, based on working with a lot of Microsofties, it's just a good story.

If anything, Mr. Gates does not seem to be taking Y2K especially seriously. I know some people within Microsoft who are planning on cashing out for precisely the reason that they don't see corporate leadership on this issue.
