Trevor's extra-Aeon love life and family

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Aeon Flux : One Thread

What I think is interesting is Trevor's many previous love affairs and his implications of family. First in these is his girlfriend/wife, that waifish breen soldier (she did wear a uniform, but what was she?). Apparently she bore him a child. Then we see the two twin girls that Trevor refers to as his children, in "The Purge". I get the feeling that he engineered those two somehow, as they don't seem very connected to him. Also interesting are Trevor's extra-Aeon love affairs, with RU-486, with Sybil, with others... He's definitely not a one-woman man. A question: There's a woman on the train in "Gravity", the teeth of whom Trevor licks... is this the same woman in season one? And is this RU486? Or another woman? I get the feeling that it's someone else, but who knows...

Well, it's a minor point but, one of Trevor's children is credited as Hostess Lanie. This implies that she is infested with a custodian.

As for the woman in Gravity being another character...I've given up on these kind of links. I don't think any minor characters appear in more than one episode but we'll never know. Is she the one in that excluded gyrating clip (which I haven't seen)?

I used to think that Varsh might be Trevor's son, but the surname alone was enough to dissuade me.

There's always the Una conspiracy though. ;-)

Oh, and an even more minor point, Trevor had a long hairbrush in his bathroom in 'Night'. I doubt it was for his use, so perhaps his partner's.

-- Philip Mills (philip.mills@cableinet.co.uk), May 13, 1998.

That location in "Night" wasn't Trevor's house... Both Trevor and Aeon were assassins who were going to assassinate the guy that lived in the complex. Trevor got to it first and killed Aeon. Also, I always thought that hostess Lanie was another one of the hostesses, not the little girls that we see... after all, why would trevor's children be a part of an all-female paramilitary group?

-- Mat Rebholz (mer5@dana.ucc.nau.edu), May 14, 1998.

Sorry, I've only got 10 seconds of Night on tape. It's been 6 years!

'Hostess' refers to any woman carrying a custodian. Lanie is one of the girls because she has the speaking part and has the same voice as...er...forgot who did her now. Look it up in the credits.

Hmm, never caught that about the hostesses... I forget that 'hostess' is simply the female form of 'host'... Still, Trevor says to Aeon, "...and your hostesses nearly ruined everything." This seems to suggest that the hostesses are exclusively members of that group... and even still, there don't seem to be any other speaking parts among the hostesses. Whatever. It's all arbitrary, and I'm sure Chung would tell us that none of these details matter and we're all crazy for dwelling on them. It's really the theme and story that mean anything here.

Maybe. But it sure is fun. Besides, most good literature has the kind of richness that causes people (like us) to dwell upon the details, even if the author didn't intend it.

Well, to get back to the question about who voiced Hostess Lanie. The actress who voiced Hostess Lanie was Julia Fletcher, who also voiced Benzenhurst in the smae episode. Benzenhurst was the assassin who Trevor had hidden in the trees outside the food bank. Julia Fletcher has also voiced Sara Salient (Utopia or Deuteronopia),and Scafandra (A Last Time For Everything), so I don't think that she voiced the little girl(s), since the voice isn;t similar. I think Hostess Lanie was the hostess at the beginning who was purged by Principal Lorna and replanted with a nw Custodian. Listen to her laugh. It sounds like Scafandra.

I agree.

-- Mat Rebholz (mer5@dana.ucc.nau.edu), May 15, 1998.

Bugger!

-- Philip Mills (philip.mills@cableinet.co.uk), May 15, 1998.

Yeah, I knew about Julia Fletcher, but I just figured she was a really good actress. :-)

Okay, I've updated my profiles accordingly. Anything else I missed while I'm at it?

Trevor does not refer to those two girls as his children. he says "My children, JUDY, BAMBARA, it was for them..." he calls hostess Judy and Bamabara his children as though he is God or something. The term Hostesses refers to members of the all female surgey-countering group that tries to reprogram the custodians.

-- Frostbite (foo@bar.com), May 20, 1998.

Nope. This is a semantics question, but for your interpretation to be correct he would have to say "My children, Judy and Bambara" and he'd have to be a very limited god if he only rules two people. He is listing. Why do you object to the children having custodians in them?

-- Philip Mills (philip.mills@cableinet.co.uk), May 20, 1998.

What happened then?

What I meant to say was that Trevor uses 'my children' to refer to everyone with a custodian, which therefore includes the girls, and not just Judy and Bambara. Yes, he's playing god.

And, okay, I'm wrong about 'hostesses' too.

So things in pointy brackets (a la HTML) don't come out in these messages then.

[Slaps self and sighs, in square brackets this time.]

Okay, I'm spamming. Sue me.

-- Philip Mills (philip.mills@cableinet.co.uk), May 20, 1998.

Oh...so we can use HTML. Nobody tells me anything. This might be useful in some situations, especially for linking to images of what you're talking about. Like so:

My question: Principal Lorna? I can't read her writing but it doesn't look like 'Lorna' to me.

-- Philip Mills (philip.mills@cableinet.co.uk), May 20, 1998.

I think it says Lorna since Aeon says "Far out" in response to Lorna's autographing the photo. Another interesting tidbit of info in this scene:

Lorna: Hmmm...what's 13 * 9? Aeon: 117 Lorna: Good answer.

Notice that Lorna's math question is a secret code for asking Aeon if she'd join the Underground Purging Society, since Aeon's reponse "117" spells "IN" in pager code.

-- TGoodchild (Wierd97@aol.com), May 20, 1998.

>>I think it says Lorna since Aeon says "Far out" in response to Lorna's autographing the photo.

????

I mean, it doesn't look like the correct spelling. More like 'Lohe'. Was 'Principal Lorna' in the credits?

-- Philip Mills (philip.mills@cableinet.co.uk), May 21, 1998.

Yes, Pricipal Lorna is in the credits as "Principal Lorna".

-- TGoodchild (JoeShmo808@aol.com), May 21, 1998.

Btw, sorry about that diversion. I should have started that Lorna stuff in a new question.

-- Philip Mills (philip.mills@cableinet.co.uk), May 23, 1998.

I'd just allways assumed you couldn't understand her handwriting because breen/monican language is different from ours(but of course they'd have to speak english. who wants a show full of subtitles) This was mainly beacause of the episode rairazure (the one with the nargiles), Roardy's(sp?) book was written in some heirogliphics language. Another explanation is that Lorna is arthritic. She flexes her fingers before purging that blonde chic and she looks about 80

-- Frostbite (foo@bar.com), June 08, 1998.

"'My children, Judy and Bambara' and he'd have to be a very limited god if he only rules two people. He is listing. Why do you object to the children having custodians in them? "

Philip, I also object. I think the children do not have custodians in them. Although Trevor is "listing", he means to mention his children as being the benfactors of having people like Bambara subdued.

Then you think the children stay with Trevor of their own free will? That they are truly his?

-- Philip Mills (philip.mills@cableinet.co.uk), June 09, 1998.

I think the children were hired actresses. Trevor treats them in a very proffessional manner when he thinks aeon can't see or hear. For example he wispers in on girl's ear 'go and do what we talked about' and later he glances and nods at them, giving the signal to raise the cactus-thing he drinks out of and to come to him. Also, they, show aeon that if she doesn't cooperate they'll smash or shoot her. Certainly they wouldn't be able to do that if they have custodians.

-- Frostbite (foo@bar.com), June 10, 1998.

Okay, I agree, but I would point out that having a conscience doesn't necessarily mean 'no violence'. If they had been implanted and Aeon had attacked Trevor in their presence, protecting him would have been the 'right' thing to do.

-- Philip Mills (philip.mills@cableinet.co.uk), June 10, 1998.

"Then you think the children stay with Trevor of their own free will? That they are truly his? --Answered by Philip Mills (philip.mills@cableinet.co.uk) on June 09, 1998."

Well...why not? Each episode seems to be self-contained. In this episode Trevor had a couple kids. No biggie there.

-- Robert (rfbeck@deltanet.com), June 11, 1998.

Heh, imagine having Aeon as a stepmother, "daddy's little girlfriend". Or is she their mother? Nah, probably not. It seems more likely that their mother is one of those anonymous blonde women...

That signature looked like it said 'Lethe' to me.. Isn't that a mythological river, the waters of which remove memories?

-- Justice (rgray@akcache.com), August 05, 1998.

117="in" in pager code? I'm sure you're right, but where do you get that stuff? and what is pager code?

-- Owen Black (Ob200bpm@aol.com), September 07, 1998.

I think the signature says love also she says I could learn to love a provacative such has yourself.

-- Cliff Leslie (ComdrBlood@aol.com), October 29, 1998.

Justice, it was already stated that indeed the name is Lorna. In the credits it says Lorna, not Lethe. Just informing you.
