Where to buy Oly D-340L

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

We've received a number of queries and responses via the "hotnews" email address about where to find the Oly 340-L. Rather than constantly posting updates in the news page, we've started this thread here, and have created the "Where to buy" category for such threads in the future. I'll post some of the responses we've received here as separate messages, and post a note on the News listing directing people here.

Harmony Computers is "advertising" the 340L so they must have some in stock. Check them out at www.shopharmony.com or 800-441-1144. Price is $699

I tried to order from Harmony on the web but their server kept hanging. When I called them, they wanted over $35 S&H. They were sketchy on delivery. No one else has them, let alone at $100 below list. I suspect they are either bluffing inventory or more probably are selling gray goods as US spec. I think I'll wait till I see several vendors with them and then make delivery and non-gray conditions of sale.

In response to your April 27 posting that you have not had any experience with Harmony Computers, let me say that I have...and it has been very satisfactory. (As a non-disclaimer, must say that I have no relationship with Harmony or any of its employees.)

I bought my Olympus D-600L from them, along with an 8 mb flash memory card, after seeing their price listed on ZDnet shopping area for digital cameras. I called, verified the prices (which were excellent I found after further comparison shopping), and placed the order. It arrived exactly as ordered in a few days. The sales person with whom I dealt was very knowledgeable about the products, as well as conversant about digital cameras in general. I may just have lucked out, but do recommend Harmony.

In shopping other resellers who were listed on the site I found great variation -- primarily in the specificity and accuracy of what they told me as well as their warranties. I also learned that most businesses selling on the web that also have other sales outlets, such as mail order and street stores, have a lower price for web ordering -- but you must know the web price when you order. They cannot quote web prices over the phone.

PC-Line (www.pcline.com) has them on their web page and is taking orders and says they are here. $729 + 2.5% for shipping. -Tom

CompUSA has the new 340's. I tried one and it has great pix, but I didnt like the way it feels when you hold it, as your thumb goes right on top of the lcd. traded it back for a 600.

In San Jose area it is for $680. 8mb smart memory $80. NMHi Batteries and charger $70. I've checked around several places and they seemed to have better prices than anyone I found.

I can't fathom why no one has suggested the two best web price checking services:

http://www.pricewatch.com and http://www.pricescan.com

They have listings for cameras and most accesories. If you are worried about the camera being in stock then check out http://www.cmpexpress.com they list their inventory on line in real time!
