Survival Checklist

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Has anyone put together an inventory of "things to do" before the apocalypse? By this I mean things like moving to the country, forming a commune/group/organization, food, water, tools, wood, a shotgun, cat food, propane, gasoline, sterilization tablets, gold and silver, cash, safe deposit box, making sure the car will work, etc. I am not in denial, but I find it difficult to focus on something I perceive to be so serious when I already have the day-to-day issues to deal with. Any thoughts?

I know of no comprehensive survival checklist that can possibly list everything you need to do. Each list should be as unique as the individual and their family. You need to get a basic idea what you need and prepare your own checklist. A good book to get started with is Basic Preparedness. There are also many web sites with information you can use to prepare. Please feel free to email if you want to know where to find the book.

Good luck...

Go to Gary North's y2k forum and you'll find just what you're looking for> . Also will have links to everything. Let me know if I can help further.

Anyone is denial should visit http://www.prophecyclub.com Here you will get honest information on what will happen and how to prepare.

Could it be that God allowed this flaw to happen in order to fullfill his prophecy? This appears to be the case. Y2k is like the Titanic. The Titanic saw the iceberg but could not turn in time. We now see Year 2000 only 600+ days away and most companies, governments, utilities and world financial institutions are not able to react in time. God has created a time for great ministry. With total financial collapse and no power.. we need to turn to God. We must prepare ourselves now. For more I recommend you vistit this site: http://www.prophecyclub.com Listen to the tapes by the great prophets Dumitri Dudeman and Jonathan Hansen. Hansen predicted the Kobe earthquake and Asian Financial problems. He is now predicting total world-wide financial collapse soon. Hansen, who gets audiences with rulers all over the world, is also predicting an major earthquake in the US. Dudeman, who died recently, was accurate on 14 messages from God, he has predicted that "American Will Burn" soon, no later than November 1998. Russia will invade the US when we are arguing internally. Visit http://www.prophecyclub.com

There's a Web site run by a novice that I'm starting to get fond of. It's at http://www.novacon.net/~wrstone/millennium_bug/survival. Very basic stuff for those of us currently without a clue.

Friends,

Here are two sites I really like for survival checklists. Note that a checklist should consist of BOTH actions and supplies.

The Cassandra Project (It was Cassandra's curse to always speak the truth and never be believed) Excellent all-around resource site. http://millennia-bcs.com/nfcass.htm Top of the site (no frames) http://millennia-bcs.com/prep.htm The Preparation List

Stan & Holly Deyo, Yanks in Australia. http://www.millennium-ark.net/News_Files/Hollys.html

I also encourage people to think in terms of a military operation as far as preparedness. We used to say, "He who fails to prepare, prepares to fail."

Therefore, I ALSO recommend _Contingency Planning_. In this, you assess all possible events or conditions and their outcomes. This is a bit like Risk Analysis. For every contingency, look at two factors: (1) What is the probability that this will occur? [Po], and (2) What is the impact severity if it occurs? [I]. Multiply and order these; it will give you a start on your most important issues you must face, enabling you to plan your contingencies, or "Fallbacks," as Ed Yourdon calls them. Analyze your alternatives and choose the best one or two for each contingency. Overall, there are four possiblities/outcomes: A: I'm prepared, and nothing happens... I have a bunch of food I can eat, and can go camping with family. B: I'm not prepared, and nothing happens... No big deal. C: I'm not prepared, and all chaos breaks loose... Effects range from inconvenience to destitutitution or death. (BTW-there are worse things than destitution; millions of people are destitute right now and making a go of it. We're mighty accustomed to a wonderful, easy life -- philosophy break) D: I'm prepared, and all chaos breaks loose... At least inconvenience, but better probability of avoiding the more disastrous effects.

BTW, The Cassandra Project has an *awesome* links site at http://millennia-bcs.com/BAS-LINK.HTM

May I suggest a site that is one big list. It is gleaned from all over the net. It is a very thorough list of things to obtain but not of thigs to do. So I hope it is useful.

I'd like to read the 14 fulfilled prophecies by Dimitru Duduman mentioned by Del Ball in his answer...

I read the one for 11/98 about a Russian Invasion of the US. What I finde interesting is that Russian subs (Typhoon Class) have been seen docked at Naval ports in Alabama...

I have also seen a lot of news service reports about Russian ships in our area. One even fored a laser at a Canadian Attack helicopter blinding the crew... whicjh has been confirmed by Pentagon Officials...

I've even see reports of large numbers of Russian troops on our soil...

Reports of Russian Military personnel touring our Nuclear sites, and military vehicles from other countries have been seen and photographed on rail systems in Montana...

Normally I wouldn't give much attention to a prophecy that is not in the Bible... But when you dig a little on the possibility of this one... This one is possible...

On y2k... Read Daniel 7:25 Here in this verse, it tells us that the Anti-christ will think to change times and laws when he is in power...and it will be given to him...

This is quite interesting when you see our own Navy trying to moveback the Global Positioning Satellite 1,024 weeks on 8-22-99

It's later than most people think...

Many thoughtful answers and site references on this thread. I am actively engaged in doing it. I might recommend that those most interested in implementing a contingency or fallback plan depend primarily on those who have or are. My suggestion: Take thirty minutes and list all of the infrastructure that you are currently dependant upon. How will you replace it? Then list all of the necessities of life and order them: 1. water 2. food 3. safe shelter (including heat) 4. personal protection (incl. health matters) I assure you, just insuring that all of these are covered for a "worse case scenario" is a daunting task. I have a solar powered place, I have my own well. However, what if those systems fail (I have back up parts and components). I have plenty of garden space and knowledge (thankfully gained while growing a garden this year). What if grasshoppers come in and whipe the whole thing out? How do I insure good propagation from season to season through seed saving. Gardens also depend on water. If I raise hogs what will I do with the leftovers, how will I butcher them? Might I be better to have a couple ducks and rabbits (think of all the advantages for a moment)? How will I stay warm? Where will I live? How vulnerable is the location? You get the picture. After considering the answers, begin to implement solutions. That is when you really start to learn! One final comment: don't worry about your "wealth". It really isn't in your money. It is in the love of family, the contribution of meaningful input to your "community", and the state of your spiritual condition.

In my mind the following are the priorities I would and am following: I'd put security third except for the fact that for many people who are planning on leaving its the largest. 1. SECURITY- Housing- if you are staying put, you need to put serious dead bolts on your doors with steel angle iron in jamb so they can9t be kicked in. Make window boards for all windows. If you are moving to a new dwelling you need the same concerns. Protection/Safety- looting, other people who do not have food or water. How you respond to this may be simply an awareness of the needs for weapon protection. This is beyond the scope here, and I would be happy to email anyone on my small thoughts there. 2. WATER- Storage- for drinking puposes 1 gallon per person per day(this is a lot of storage) Purification(if you have no power, your well won9t pump--don9t count on public water systems working, and without electricity, you may have no way of boiling water), larger drip water katadin purifiers may be needed for house usage 3. FOOD- Short Term: unless you have stored food, there may be none in the stores. Long Term might consider collecting non hybrid seeds(soybeans, peas, etc). Manual Utensils for doing a garden, or small gas operated cultivator, gardening books, composting books, 4. MEDICAL/DENTAL- books(emergency manuals, WHERE THERE IS NO DOCTOR, WHERE THERE IS NO DENTIST) , large medical kit, suture kit, extra towels, extra cold/aspirin/eyestuff/ contct lens cleaner and stuff 5. ELECTRICITY: Short Term: gas or propne generator only Long Term diesel, inverter batteries 5. COMMUNICATION- crank generated radio9s crank generated CB9s, or at least re- chargeable battery. 6. FINANCES- Small Amounts: a. get rid of all credit cards(don9t cncel them, just put credit balance on them, and don9t use them) but one by April 99, put a larger on-going credit on this ONE(say a bank card) b. gradually collect some cash and keep it in a safe place(at least $1000.) Get 209s, and have a bank receipt for each amount. Easiest way to do this is not to deposit all of your paycheck each month Larger Amounts: Get out of intangibles like stocks, bonds, bank accounts and foreign currencies, and into tangibles like land, equipment, and precious metals, fuels, lumber, materials, natural resources. But they have to be actual resurces that you can own, and that you will be able to sell at some point. Precious metals: junk silver, platinum ounces by country manufacture, gold silver eagles 7. OTHER- a. Change residence identifications on voter and driver9s license you might consider this if you move so that you can get there, otherwise you may be stopped since the locals or the guv won't want you moving to some palce where you don't live.
