ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Reuters) - The television retailer Home Shopping Network, jumping on the Titanic bandwagon, said Tuesday it would sell old stock certificates, pieces of coal and other memorabilia associated with the doomed luxury liner. "Titanic aficionados will soon have an extraordinary opportunity to get their hands on a genuine piece of the ship's history," the company said. Spokeswoman Suzanne Haber said a special Titanic show was scheduled to air Wednesday at 9 p.m. EDT. Among items to be offered for sale are 10 original stock certificates in White Star Lines, Titanic's owner, that date from 1902 to 1907 and are priced at $1,000 each. The company said they were "extremely rare," and three had been bought by a private investor as gifts for James Cameron, who directed the hit movie "Titanic," and its stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Goods on offer also will include coal chips removed from the wreckage of the White Star liner, which sank after hitting an iceberg off the coast of Newfoundland on the night of April 14-15, 1912. Speaking for myself, I think its rather tacky and a bit of bad taste, to be flogging Titanic memorabilia. It's a bit to close to home to want a piece of coal (even if it is the real thing).

Reading about it, seeing the movie more than once and talking about it on this chat line is fine by me, but to actually purchase something from the wreck itself, no, not for me.

Yep, I agree, and especially on the 15th of April!
