A 'Titanic of Their Own'

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain is wading through a torrent of rain not seen in 50 years. The water swelled rivers, stranded entire towns and wreaked havoc with weekend plans. In one town, staffers at a movie theater watched in disbelief as water lapped over the front row of seats following a showing of the hit movie ``Titanic.'' ``It is our very own Titanic. We wept when we saw it,'' cinema manager Gary Stevens told the Daily Telegraph newspaper. And at Shakespeare's home, Stratford-upon-Avon, the river spilled over its banks and the popular theater was flooded. Last night's performance, aptly enough ``The Merchant of Venice,'' had to be canceled while Saturday's matinee show of ``The Tempest'' was called off as the elegant swans that glide across the Avon held sway over the watery town center.
