TITANIC (THE SHIP) TO SAIL AGAIN?
Conceding that they are attempting to ride in the wake of Titanic's success, a Swiss-U.S. company has announced plans to build a $500 million replica of the Titanic and launch it on April 15, 2002, the 90th anniversary of the original voyage, the New York Post reported today (Monday). The newspaper quoted Annette Voelcker, a spokeswoman for G&E Business Consulting and Trust, a Swiss-based hotel developer, as saying, "We thought now would be the right moment, because the whole world is keen on Titanic."

After you dole out your $32,000 dollars that you dug out of the clothes dryer this weekend for the anticipated "tours of the Titanic" wreck site this summer, you can hit under the couch cushions for the next four years for the $10,000-$100,000 per ticket to make this trip! If you take the cheap seats, check for locked gates, etc..

Although the maiden voyage will cost $10,000 to $100,000, I'm sure that subsequent cruises would be more reasonable. I bet they could do a brisk business just allowing people to tour the ship in port (maybe this could include a dinner in the first-class dining room). Anyway, I'm not one to tempt fate. I think I'll wait to make sure THIS Titanic makes it to New York the first time!

One other thought: Assuming that the ship will be recreated in an authentic manner, how many people would want to spend more than a day on it? Athough the Titanic was well-appointed for its time, modern cruise ships provide far more spacious accommodations and more varied activities. Modern cruisers might not adapt to the slower pace; the charm will wear off quickly. But if these developers try to update the ship too much, they may as well not even bother. Why cruise on a "Titanic" with a casino, discotheque, and deck pools? As Captain Smith said in the movie, "I don't see the point..."

Our Family have always said we would go on an exact replica of the Titanic With nothing diffrent about it, mabey more life boats,thats it. Doomed for disaster? Maybe but theres life boats it's a chance of a life time!

are you that stupid.... the titanic sank for a reason... to show how people who think things can't happen can truely happen.. if the ship could come back and talk then it would probably say " let me rest in peace. stop trying to make me out to what i am not. i was a ship that sank into the sea and now i want to be left alone." so why not let her sleep in peace.. wait i know why because you guys can't seem to let things go. she was a great ship but now she is under the sea and is about what 93 years it is time to let her sleep in peace and not try and add other ship with her.

(In response to the last post) Sheesh, what's wrong with people just wanting to bring back a little bit of the past? I think it's a great idea and I really wish it would happen someday. "The titanic sank for a reason..." Yeah, the sinking was planned for a reason. They really wanted to prove all those people wrong by killing them! Doesn't that idea seem a little flawed? I say that if you think building another Titanic will generate a lot of business, then do it. I for one would sail on it. :-)
