When will all the excitement end? How long can Titanic stay at the top of the box office? How many more times can A&E show their specials? Wouldn't it be ironic if Titanic made it to April 15th and then dropped out of the top 10 box office all together?

How long can we keep this message board going? Hey Tom, what's the traffic patterns been like? It seems to me that we are dropping off and that it's the same core group of people...True - False?

I don't know if we ***are*** dropping off to a small "repeat business" crowd, but in any case...ain't it fun?! I enjoy this group too much to want it to stop. I guess we'll stay this way (and go on and on) till Thomas decides that his heart is not in it and will not go on.

As for the movie, I think it will be around a while longer in the top ten. It probably doesn't have too much more time as number 1, but I would bet that you will still be able to go to a theater on June 1st and see Jack, Rose, Mr. Andrews, and the Big T. Let's enjoy this while it lasts.

Well, I don't know how long the movie will stay up there, although it is truely holding it's own in the face of some tough competition, but the Titanic herself will go on long after most of us are gone! to quote Robert Ballard:

"....before you realize it, you're living with her. Before you realize it, you're married to her. And let me tell you something: there is no divorcing the Titanic. Ever."

And it IS lots of fun!

This message board will stay up as long as the Greenspun server stays up... considering that Philip Greenspun has had the same email address since the late seventies, these messages will be around for a while.

I can't track the number of people reading this Q&A forum, but the number of postings seems to be down a bit from the peak (which was about a month ago), which is to be expected.

Eventually (this month, if at all possible), I'll be writing up the FAQ for TitanicShack (tm).

Hi Crystal - I don't know when all the excitement et al. as regards the film will end. However I can be pretty sure that one thing won't end and that is my fascination with the actual TITANIC story. We've had contributors to this board like Kip, Peter and others who I presume have had a longstanding interest in TITANIC. I'm pretty sure that their interest isn't going to disappear when the film *eventually* disappears from the big screen - well count me in as well!

Even if it is the same group of people - at least it's the same group of interesting, knowledgeable and perceptive people who will always be able to generate stimulating discussion on the subject. So thank you Thomas for giving us our forum to do so :)

I think the "cultural phenomenon" and "this board" are two different issues. Most people here seem to be more interested in the historical aspects of the Titanic, not just Kate, Leo and Jim Cameron. But there are only so many questions one who knows a lot about the ship can ask, so without a lot of newbies the factual Q&A is ending and the questions have a more opinion orientated aspect to them. As for the box office, a lot of people have seen the movie multiple times, and there is still an audience of more than 90% of the world's population that hasn't seen it. It's so haunting, and there are so many stupid movies out there that people are willing to see Titanic again rather than spend $8 on the new Bruce Willis brainless flick.
