Anyone have credit cards with "00" expiration?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

My wife and I have both had 00 expiration cards for some time now and have deliberately used them with a variety of vendors to try and find a glitch. So far only one vendor has failed - that was our local community college and we were told that they didn't know when they would be compliant. Anyone else have dexperiences to relate?

I take them at our business without problem. I have asked a few people who have late dated cards if they have had problems. They report few.

My first 00 credit card was Chevron. Use it without difficulty. However, the date on the receipt I get from the pay at the pump compouter has only two date fields. Does the expiration date really matter? I recently got a new Discover card with a 00 expiration date as well. Haven't used it yet. However, when BNY (just purchased by Chase) re-issued my Consumer's Edge Gold Visa, it was only issued for 9 months with a 99 expiration. My last card from them was issued for over 3 years. I called to find out why. After a visit with her supervisor to find out, the friendly and candid cs rep told me "it's because we have a problem with the computers turning over to the year two thousand". As soon as the merger is complete with Chase, and they have everything strightened out, they'll re-issue new cards." Hmmmm.

I have a BNY MasterCard with an expiration date of 01/00, which was issued to be valid starting 02/98. I have had no problems using it.

I had to use a card with a 1999 expiration year because some CD-ROMs I attempted to order from Prime Time Freeware (www.ptf.com) could not be paid for with my usual card, which expires in 2000. Prime Time Freeware said their computer system (sounded like an in-house system, or perhaps just the DOS-based card authorization software so many small businesses use) could not process cards with an expiration in 2000.

I have an 01/01/00 charge card and have had no problems using it! One thing I did find strange though is that I got two identical statements, with no new charges on the last statement. The dates were even the same! Major screw-up!! Should be interesting to see what comes this month!!

No 00's, but I got my first '01 a month back. So far, no problems at a variety of web and in-person vendors. On the other hand, with 3 Amex cards, so far they've all been reissued as '99 -- maybe the company isn't ready yet?

I have a B of A ATM card (visa logo shows on card) issued on 9-12-97 with expiration date of 10-99! No letters from B of A about non-compliance or compliance by fiscal July 99 or Jan. 1st, 2000. I believe fiscal July 99, is when a lot of chaos will demonstrate.

I received a Visa debit card from Bank One with an expiration date of 02/00 and haven't had any trouble using it anywhere.

My daughter has gone through 5 ATM cards with '00' expiration dates that didn't work. She now has one that finally works. They moved the expiration date back to 99. :) No kidding.
