GUNS BANNED IN U.S.????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Last year in the wake of a murder spree in Australia the Aussie government banned all handguns, ect. Little reisitance was offered as the entire citizen population was disarmed overnite. In preperation for the y2k crisis and all of its civil upheavels, dosent it make sense that the U.S. government might do the same in light of the Arkansas killings? Would you give up your guns? What would you do?

The situations are different. Austrailia has alwas had restrictive gun laws and strict registration. The peoples choice was to give in or become hunted criminals. Same with Canada and GB.

In the US the majority of firearms are unregistered. Despite Brady, ATF form 4473, and various state registrations, the bulk of personally held weapons are not accurately on paper. To make a point, last year it was revealed that the stinking ATF themselves could not account for a roomfull of automatic weapons. And then there was the FBI who left a truck full of weapons in a motel parking lot and lost them for a week or two.

Gun bans do not work well in this nation. At least not among MOST of the population. The recent phony 'assault weapon' bans in New Jersey and California had a compliance rate somewhere UNDER 5%.

The one years ago in NY had a much higher compliance rate because they installed registration first and promised not to confiscate. A few years later they confiscated without restitution.

Who in this nation will enforce a gun ban? Who would be willing to go door to door?

I suggest you read a book titled 'Unintended Consequences' by John Ross. It's an eye opener and is selling nearly as many copies as Ed's book!

The day that the citizens of this land allow any dictator forign or domestic to remove this right, the experiment in freedom called America is over. There is no better assurance of becoming a slave than to disallow the populace the means to choose the methods by which they are goverened, by force if that is what is required. Join the NRA, they speak for your rights, not just hunting. Practice you rights by supporting political representation that will only back all your Bill of Rights, not just tax your monies away. If the federal government tries to use the Y2K area to remove your rights, pray you have the courage and backbone that your ancestors had 230 years ago to decide if your more like Bill & Al (beavis & butthead) or more like Jefferson, Adams, Monroe, or any of a thousand true patriots that formed this nation.

READ!!!! "Unintended Consequences" It's awesome!!! It's a fictional account of life in the U.S.S.A. about to become non-fiction?!!

Yeh right, so by your logic Australia is a dictatorship, right? After all, no guns = dictatorship. Well, I just got back from there. They looked like a democracy to me.

Same with Canada. Same with England. Same with Japan. Same with every democracy in the world except U.S. All democracies every bit as good as the US, except they don't allow gun nuts to mow people down in the streets.

You guys should get out more, see the world. The NRA are communist fanatics, trying to destroy our democracy and enslave us in terror.

Handguns have been effectively banned in Australia since World War 2 to all but police, certain military and some (not all) security guards. Twenty years ago it was not uncommon for a few bank tellers to have a revolver behind the counter, but not any more. Pistol shooting club members can still have them, but they have to be kept unloaded in a safe that's too heavy to move or is embedded in concrete. Now they have removed long-arms as well. No more semi-autos, no shotguns capable of holding more than 3 shells. Full auto anything has always been a-no-no for all but the military (we have very few of them) and police SWAT team equivalents. An overwhelming press, radio and TV campaign has convinced the sheep that anyone who wants a gun must be sicko. Sad.

First off all were not a democracy we are a republic. "And to the republic for which it stands" you ever heard that before? I guess not. What are you going to do when somebody breaks into your house at night? Beg for your life, call your wonderful goverment to come help you. I bet you go out and buy a gun when its all over if your begging works that is . Or if its still legal to buy a gun. Poor dumb clinton lover.

Boy, it is sure good to hear "to the Republic for which it stands" from someone out there! The Democracy brainwashing has sure worked-- that's all we hear. Bring on the mob rule, because that is what a Democracy is. A Republic is by definition "individual rights." Who can say they prefer a Democracy? Interesting to note that Russia has in recent years been known in the media as a Republic and the USA as a Democracy. Just lately Russia has suppossedly taken on US style Democracy and gotten rid of that rotten Republic. Ha, what a joke. To the gun issue-- of course "they" want our guns and probably have been collectively trying to come up with a solution to that old bugabo--what to do with all the NRA nuts out there and how do we get their guns?

Cassandra;

Like you I am glad to see that Republic thingy.

In regards to the Democracy/Republic thing - perhaps we went from the latter to the former without a lot of folks knowing it even happened or even aware of the difference between the two. We sure got there somehow/somewhen.

I guess y2k will serve to re-educate the folks in just what a Democracy is, and shortly thereafter just what a Totalitarian State is. At least that is what I am most concerned about for now.

As for the guns: They will only get the ones that they know about, and even then only after the fight, and that only after they catch me in an open spot. I rather firmly believe in my Rights. All of them.

Interesting quote - why is he lying, who did he get this lie from, and why are they teaching it? Why does he believe it? What other things does he "believe" in - in his funny "religion" based on hatred and lies about those people most interested in freedom?

Could it be that he is among those who most fear freedom and independent thought?

Didn't Goebels teach that the propaganda begins first, then the fear and blame, then the false and unanswered accusations by the media, then the registration, then the ....

Speaking of guns.....I saw on the news tonight where Clinton wants to close the "legal loophole" used at gun shows. Background check for EVERYONE now, even when you buy at a gun show. This is going to make a lot of people very angry.....

Question: Who is Goebels avatar in our society?

-- Hardliner (searcher@internet.com), November 08, 1998.

James Carville, hands down. There's a man who knows the meaning and the use of the Big Lie. Try reading his book, if you can hold your nose long enough.

-- History buff (avatar@history.buff), November 08, 1998.

The Anti-gun nuts keep holding up Japan, England, Australia, Canada and other places as shining examples of banning private ownership of firearms. Yeah! Sure! Right! They just may not realize that a Japanese cop can stop and frisk you on the street, or stop and search your car or they can even come into your home in the middle of the night with NO search warrant. Sounds like Utopia, huh? Oh, by the way, a British SUBJECT is not a citizen. No Bill of Rights or Constitution for them. No thanks. Freedom in our country also means some of our people are free to abuse the rights given. This was once handled by a judicial system that worked a lot better than the way it does now. But, just ask yourself how long all of our Bill of Rights would last once our citizens are disarmed. No longer citizens. SUBJECTS, and there is one hell of a big difference!!!!!!! Good Luck. Kentucky Bill
