Yes, James is the king of the world!! I think the right thing was done, he deserved those awards, and I know that many were happily surprised! I know I was! History in the making, all over again! If only Leo were there.

Morning papers here in Tasmania quotes:

"James Cameron triumphed, picking up the Oscar for best director and was obviously elated, letting his legendary and sizeable ego run loose."

If one is responsible for writing the script, then raising the cash to make the movie (as well as renegotiating several extensions along the way), directing, editing and then plugging the movie after its release, taking in $1 billion + at the box office, I think a man has earned the right to shout

'I AM THE KING'

I really appreciate that despite all of the hoopla, all of the pomp and circumstance, all of the posturing and glamour, that James Cameron remembered what was really important. I'm glad that even at the end, he never lost sight of his vision to be true to Titanic and the people lost.

From his acceptance speech.

IT'S KIND OF HARD FOR US TO REMEMBER THAT THIS EUPHORIA AND THIS SUCCESS IS FOR A FILM THAT'S BASED ON A REAL EVENT THAT HAPPENED, WHERE REAL PEOPLE DIED THAT SHOCKED THE WORLD IN 1912. I'D JUST LIKE EVERYBODY TO GO WITH ME FOR JUST A SECOND. I'D LIKE TO DO A FEW SECONDS OF SILENCE IN REMEMBRANCE OF THE 1,500 MEN, WOMEN, AND CHILDRE WHO DIED WHEN THE GREAT SHIP DIED. AND THE MESSAGE OF "TITANIC," OF COURSE, IS THAT IF THE GREAT SHIP CAN SINK, THE UNTHINKABLE CAN HAPPEN, THE FUTURE'S UNKNOWABLE. THE ONLY THING THAT WE TRULY OWN IS TODAY. LIFE IS PRECIOUS. SO DURING THESE FEW SECONDS, I'D LIKE YOU TO ALSO LISTEN TO THE BEATING OF YOUR OWN HEART, WHICH IS THE MOST PRECIOUS THINGS IN THE WORLD. JOIN ME FOR SECONDS OF SILENCE.
