I have a sick feeling Titanic is not going to win the best picture tonight. All the critics think L.A. Confidential has to win because its script is better and Titanic's is attracting people that have no taste in movies. Some one lift my spirits.

No matter what the outcome, we all KNOW what film is the true "movie of the year." No one will ever convince me otherwise!!

I would like to see, if nothing else, James Cameron win for his determination to make this film happen, and Gloria Stewart for the courage to make a comeback after all these years and do it in such a superb way. Everything else is gravy (and I LOVE gravy!).

God!! It's getting really close and I'm nervous. Cannot believe that I feel this way about the Oscars. My heart is saying that Titanic will win more Oscars than anyother film in history, but logic raises its ugly head and says that it won't.

I can't help but think that its very success at the box office will go against it, to the extent that it only wins 1 or 2.

And even though we have voted it a winner, that is small comfort to the recognition 12 or 13 Oscars would give it. Titanic is already thee highest grossing movie ever, it would sit nicely if we could also say that Titanic is the winner of the greatest number of Oscars as well.

As the saying goes, only time will tell, and that time is nigh.

Folks, there have been many, many great films that have not won the Best Picture award. If Titanic goes 0 for 14 tonight, it has still made film history on a scale with GWTW, which **no** other film on tonight's bill will accomplish. When the history of films of the late 1990's is written, James Cameron's Titanic will be the one everyone remembers.

And don't kid yourselves--given the choice between winning lots of awards and making lots of money, the producers will take the money every time. And if in the course of making lots of money they happen to produce something good, that's serendippity.

Nicely put Tom! The only regret that I have, is that Gloria Stewart did not win. Kind of ironic that she is the only one of the nominees in any category that was actually around when the Titanic sank (born July 4, 1910)!
