what did old rose really want?

Well a couple of thoughts have come to mind. 1. What do you guys think old rose wanted ? I mean, whe all know now that rose had the diamond all along, yet at the begginning of the movie she calls lovett on the phone and asks him " I was wondering if you had found the heart of the ocean yet, mr Lovett?" Was it that maybe she really wanted to see her drawing? or perhaps just finnally tell her story to someone.... 2. What would have happened if rose would have got in the boat? By this I mean, What would have happened If "mother" hadn't asked that annoying question "Will whe be sitted according to class?" followed by cal's "not the better half" would rose have gotten in the boat as it appears that she was about to do or..... any sceaneriouse? (spelling)

Maybe she wanted him to know the story from a human viewpoint hoping it would get to him enough for him cease his treasure hunt in the grave of her lost love, and she used his desire for the diamond to get to him and also to make her peace at the site, and rejoin Jack.

I think she said this to make him realize that she was indeed a Titanic survivor. Remember when he says, "everyone who knows about that (necklace) is on this boat or went down with the ship, but she knows!" (Please excuse if my quote isn't 100% accurate). I think she said it to prove to him that she was who she was claiming to be.

The heart of the ocean is more than a jewel. She doesn't expect him to answer this. She asks him this because the real heart of the ocean isn't the necklace but the love that was discovered on the Atlantic during the fateful journey between her and Jack. The story itself is the heart of the ocean. Lovett is concerned with money. She wants him to catch glimpse of the excitement, grandness, and pain and suffering that took place.

I agree with all the above, except the notion that she was saying what she had to in order to see the drawing in person. I also think that Rose represents Eva Hart, a survivor who recently passed away, in that the latter implored divers to not loot the Titanic grave. The "Paxton" to whom she implored, and there actually may have been several Paxtons, I recently saw on a documentary and forget his name (Ballard?). On the show he remarked how excited he and his crew were upon finding the grave, and then how they were overcome with sadness, agreed about keeping the ship and what it contained untouched, and ultimately placed a plaque on the bow in commemoration of Eva's father (and maybe all the other victims, I forget). Supposedly artifacts have now been taken from the debris field separating the two halves of the ship, but maybe that wasn't something to which Eva objected. As you can see, I'm not sure of all the facts. This is what happens when you live to 101 as I have; you forget things. I'll answer the scenario question some other time. I've told my story, and I have to go to sleep now..
