Matt Damon deserves nomination before Leo DiCaprio {your thoughts?}

I was shocked when Leo did not get an Oscar nomination. Then I saw Siskel & Ebert say they thought Leo didn't get a nomination because the Academy was feeling sentimental for Matt Damon (first screenplay and all). Then I saw Good Will Hunting and thought he created and portrayed a very rich, multi-layered character. As much as I loved Leo's performance not just in this but in every film I've ever seen him in. I have to admit, given the shallow depth of his Titanic character (blame the screenplay), I would give the nomination to Matt. What do yo

Yeah.. I think that Matt Damon is more deserving of an Oscar nomination than Leo. I also saw Good Will Hunting and he portrayed his character far better off than Leo portrayed his. BTW, do you see the striking resemblence between Matt and Leo. They could pass as brothers. What do you thik?

Response to Matt Damon deserves nomination before Leo DiCaprio

Maybe I shouldn't be answering this question because I haven't even seen Good Will Hunting, so I guess I'm ignorant of how well Matt Damon did. I DO know, though, that di Caprio should have been nominated for a couple of reasons: regardless of his character's "shallow depth", which is debatable anyway, it takes a lot on the part of an actor to have the audience really care about a character. di Caprio performed his role as a charming bohemian excellently; it is very hard not to care about his character. Secondly, the Academy obviously thought very highly of Titanic, or else it would not have tied a record for most nominations. To think that the lead male actor of that movie is not a major part of the movie's success (not commercial in this context) seems absurd. A nomination for best actor should have been given to Leonardo diCaprio.

I also noticed that Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon do resemble each other an awful lot.

I think that Leo is not good looking at all, and Matt Damon is like, 100 times better, and deserves to win every single award in the entire world forever. (And ever) (Along with his friend- Ben Affleck)

I have to agree that the two actors could pass for relatives. They're both sophisticated and young, and it remains to be seen how well their talents would develop in the next years. While Damon finished with a degree at Harvard, DiCaprio has the advantage of being fluent in German and probably Italian, bringing in his acting some European flavour. As I've seen all of DiCaprio's movies (even before the Titanic hype and except for "Celebrity") and Good Will Hunting, I saw many similarities between the acting of the two actors. I hope to see many good movies with them in the next years. As for Oscars, they surely come in time. Let us not forget that many good actors had to wait quite a long time before getting their first award.

Matt damon has big, chunky teeth, and a big head (literally). But he is a decent actor, and so is Leo, who is beautiful.

Yes I think that Matt damon should have gotten one before Leo. Leo is not really a good actor even though I loved Titanic it still would have done well without him. Leo is a egoistic pig. I really hope people realize that soon. I plan not to see his new movie, it sounds stupid.

I believe that both Matt Damon and Leonardo Dicaprio are wonderful actors and they both played there parts very well. However it is unfair to Leo to say that he did not do as good as job as Matt. His character may not have been as deep as Matt's but Titanic would never have been the same without him.(Don't get me wrong I love Matt Damon but it's not fair to Leo!!)

I did greatly admire Matt Damon's performance in Good Will Hunting, and I felt it was an all-around good movie. I can't really say the same for Titanic, whether or not it was Leo's fault. (I also think that Leo looks like Matt's scrawny little brother. Adorable, really. heh heh)
