Kate as much a sex symbol as Leo?

There are so many girls going crazy over Leonardo DiCaprio. And girls put Kate Winslet's photo up on their wall and try to look like her, so that Leo might like them too. What about guys going crazy for Kate Winslet? I think she is beautiful, and not just physically. I'm interested to hear other people's opinions of Kate's attractivene

She is very beautiful and with an excellent sense of humor. She is in reality as she was with Jack in the movie. I saw some of her interviews and she seems to be such a nice person, full of high spirits. I saw today an entire article on her, full with photos and information about her. It was in a French magazine here in Canada.

-- Dan Draghici (ddraghic@ccs.carleton.ca), March 05, 1998.

I, as a heterosexual male, don't understand DiCaprio's appeal. He is physically underdevelloped and almost effeminate in appearance. Perhaps young girls see him as cute and non-threatening; they can relate to him almost like a girl friend. While Kate is attractive in a natural, attainable way (thus explaining her appeal to the girls) I don't think guys would go crazy for her. I know I don't. Remember, Titanic is primarily a women's movie, and Kate Winslet was cast for her appeal to the female audience, not the male contingent. I suspect that the majority of males who like the movie are attracted to the action, the special effects or the real history of the Titanic, not Kate Winslet. As for demonstrating inner beauty in her performance, this is something I missed. My previous comments on the character of Rose invited a "lynching", so I won't go into that again.

-- Dan Dalton (DDalton2@prodigy.net), March 05, 1998.

Is this thread reserved only for those named Dan or some derivative there of?As a hetrosexual male I must say that Kate Winslet is one seriously beautiful woman.I had never seen any of her movies before TITANIC,but I won't be missing in the future.I will agree with Dan#2 that,as a male,my original motivation for seeing the movie had to do with my interest in the historical nature of the event,as well as the special effects. But from the moment she stepped out of the car on the dock at Southampton,I was captivated. From the interviews that I have seen with her so far,she seems to be very down to earth, unlike many actresses, and actors, that come out of Hollywood.

-- danny (dss40@ix.netcom.com), March 05, 1998.

I agree with the idea that girls see Leo non-threatening because he is cute and has a very feminine look.I'm a major Leo fan too and I suppose I love his floppy brown hair and his innocent blue/green eyes.Girls who worship Kate Winslet(like me)probably have the same reason as me.She is very natural and is not ashamed of her curvacious figure. It sends a message to girls that they don't have to lok like stick insects like all the flat-chested,bony models today.I'm not condemming them though.Maybe some girls are naturally like that and some men find thin girls attractive.Thats fine.Myself,I am curvy and will most probably be the size of Kate when I'm fully grown...so I can't wait to grow up!!!!....Kate is gorgeous and she isn't perfect like most of us.She has quite a large nose for one.But....she is still beautiful.I reckon she rules and hope she is very happy in her new marrage!!!‰

-- Jo Duggan (JoWDuggan@aol.com), December 12, 1998.

What? I large nose? Did anyone else notice this? I thought her face was and is very well porportioned. Does anyone else have this same opinion? Don't worry Jo - I'm not questioning your opinion, I'm just sharing mine and asking others to do so on this subject, too. So you think she has a big nose, ay? I guess that gives me an excuse to watch the movie again and see...

-- Kelly (foo@bar.com), December 12, 1998.

Oh come on, Kelly and Jo. Must we be so shallow? First her weight, now her nose. I believe she also had a freckle! I'm going to watch it again today just to make sure. If there is one, I'm going to write Cameron and protest his choice of Winslet. I mean, you know, three strikes and you're out! Winslet was the perfect choice for this role, period. Get on with your lives!!

-- BobG (bobg@foo.bar), December 13, 1998.

Good god I didn't mean to offend Kate or anyone else....she has got a good proportion face.I wasn't saying she had a nose the size of pinnoccio...!!! She has a perfect English face.I would do anything to look like her.It was just a little commment...I think we should just get on with our lives...Kate is perfect,Titanic was the best film and we are her fans.(well, except the mental people who think they know everything about kate)‰

-- Jo Duggan (JoWDuggan@aol.com), December 13, 1998.

I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone here, guys! I'm simply just saying what I thought, as Jo did. And I'm not carefully looking over every imperfection in the film! As everyone else said, Kate was and is perfect for the role - I didn't mean to offend anyone, and I'm not picking apart the movie to every "imperfection!" I hardly think that's an imperfection. Must we turn little things like this into a fight? Good God people - all I said was that I didn't think she had a large nose! So I'm sorry if you guys thought I was out of line, but honestly people, I was just sharing my opinion.

-- Kelly (foo@bar.com), December 13, 1998.

Uhhh Bob...calm down. We agree that she was perfect for the role but people also have thier own ideas of sexy and if someone is totally turned off by a big snoze then they have every right to say so...no matter if it's about Kate or not. Personally I agree with Kelly on this one. I don't think her nose is to big. All her features connect to form a truely beautiful face. But that is just my opinion. And BTW what is so bad about freckles!!!! I have lots seeing as how I am a true redhead...

-- Miranda Swearingen (Kylen1@hotmail.com), December 14, 1998.

Uhh Miranda..you're apparently pretty shallow yourself. I have some faint freckles myself, BTW. Yes, we're all entitled to our own opinions but shouldn't harp on appearances we don't like. Think about it. Don't you think physically disfigured people are hurt when they hear such shallow remarks made about others who are basically normal looking? We need to show a little restraint when finding others unattractive. Everyone's beautiful, in their own way... Now sing it, everyone!

-- BobG (bobg@foo.bar), December 14, 1998.

Okay, I'm not harping on other people appearances. Sorry if you misunderstood, I happen to LIKE freckles, but my opinion was simply that I DIDN'T THINK KATE HAD A BIG NOSE. How did this turn into people being shallow? I certainly didn't mean to offend any one, ESPECIALLY disabled people. Just FYI, I take a great liking to people in need. I never whisper, only smile and wave. So how this got into a coversation that began with 'I don't think she has a big nose' and ended with 'Apparently you're shallow, too' is beyond me. I don't think physical appearances have a thing to do with the real person inside. So take that into consideration before calling people shallow. Wow, all I said was I didn't think she has a big nose! Can anyone explain to me what that has to do with physical appearance? I was complementing Kate, no matter what her appearance, as beautiful as she and everyone else may be! For the love of God, we all have flaws. We don't need to get defensive. Does this need to go any father than it already has?

-- Kelly (foo@bar.com), December 15, 1998.

Also, I ( or anyone else ) never said anyone was unattractive in any way, shape or form!

-- Kelly (foo@bar.com), December 15, 1998.

Kelly, normally I would stop contributing to conversations like this, but I've got a few minutes on hand, and you need to be pointed out your hypocrisy. Yes, you did come across as shallow when you said something like, "So Kate has a big nose?...I'll have to watch it again and see." That's a dumb-ass remark, whether or not you thought she had a big nose. Also "physically disfigured" does not necessarily mean "physically disabled" and my use of the term implied something like scarring (i.e., on the face). I also enjoyed your airheaded remark about you "smiling and waving" rather than whispering when you see disabled folks. Yes, if you want to carry this further, by all means. Apparently I'm not the only one with too much time on my hands.

-- BobG (bobG@foo.bar), December 15, 1998.

P.S. Fuglies of the world, unite! Haha. Actually, as I keep saying on the chat site, I have no self esteem problems relating to my appearance right now.

-- BobG (bobg@foo.bar), December 15, 1998.

Honestly, if you would like to continue to insult me in my apology for my "airheaded" remarks, go right ahead. I could have paid a little more attention by saying "So, you think she has a big nose?...I guess I'll watch the movie again and see." In case you are a little too thick to realize that I was simply adding my opinion and making a JOKE by adding that I'll watch the movie again and see, than well, fine by me. But I was trying to say that I did not mean what it sounded like. And yes, I DO have some time on my hands, so go ahead. Would you like to add another insult to me in my post to say that it was a misunderstanding on my part in the terms of that I should have been more careful? Good God - I was trying to be friendly! I have NOTHING against big noses, as I said before looks don't matter, and what is so bad about waving and smiling to disabled ( or disfigured people )? Since you said most people whisper and sneer, I think I am making the best of it, as you said, whispering would most likely hurt them. So go right ahead - I'd like to hear what you think.

-- Kelly (foo@bar.com), December 15, 1998.

Kelly, I've just learned you're 13 years old. I'm 32. That alone explains for me the difficulty we're having in communicating. Sorry for being insulting. Bye.

-- BobG (bobG@foo.bar), December 15, 1998.

Hey, no problem. Anyway, I don't think age should really matter. I don't want you guys to think I'm immature and don't think things out. I'm actually very aware and mature for my age; noticing and taking into consideration everything that goes on - from politics (and not just scandals ) to the lastest history. So I wouldn't want you guys to think I'm not mature, though I may be young. So Bob, no hard feelings? :-)

-- Kelly (foo@bar.com), December 16, 1998.

P.S. - , even though Bob may have had more experience in the world than I have, seeing the age difference.

-- Kelly (foo@bar.com), December 16, 1998.

I think that Kate Winslet is by far the most wonderful women in the world, in every way. I mean, no offence but her husband is not the best looking man in the world yet she could have had the pick of almost anybody but she married him because she loved him. In my oppinion she is the best actress around today and she is no question the most beutiful and attractive women around. She is truly magnificant.

-- Ian Rafferty (Ian@Raffwba.freeserve.co.uk), December 17, 1998.

Hey, what's wrong with Kate's hubby? True, he's no Matthew McConaughey but how many men are? ;-) He's not half bad at all and it's plain for all to see that they love each other to death. I'm sure this is one "Hollywood" marriage that will last.

-- Emma (dilemma76@hotmail.com), December 17, 1998.

Shallow?! Ever heard of Freedom of speech Bob?? If we didn't have it you wouldn't be able to insult me by calling me shallow. I think you need to know someone just a little better before calling them that. And I never said that people didn't or shouldn't get their feelings hurt when people talk about them like that. Actually I make it a point to look past things like that and try to get a good look at the person inside.

-- Miranda Swearingen (Kylen1@hotmail.com), December 18, 1998.

One more thing Bob....I don't think anyone was harping on anything. I think everyone here was just trying to express an opinion. I doubt that it would have gone any further had you not started making it into such a big deal and offending several people along the way.

-- Miranda Swearingen (Kylen1@hotmail.com), December 18, 1998.

So Kate's hubby isn't good looking? Nice of her to stoop down to his level. What's wrong with him? Is he 25 lbs overweight or something?

-- Dalton (foo@bar.com), December 18, 1998.

Miranda, I'll similarly now show restraint in not criticizing you the way I normally would an adult for the remarks you just made, because you too are young. This may seem like a big deal to you, but I think you still don't get it. Any conversation of Winslet's weight or other physical features is immaterial to anything except her being considered for a beauty pageant, which is not an interest of hers. The character she played had chemistry with Jack's, and that's what mattered, not whether a third person felt she wasn't physically perfect. Take a good look around next time you're on the street or in a mall in a large city; there are very diverse couples, and most people have physical imperfections. In time you'll learn those don't matter as much as the relationship. I'm not accusing you of calling her unattractive; I am accusing anyone (I actually forget if you're one of them) who MAKES A DISCUSSION of her appearance, especially after her weight "issue" has been explored ad nauseum on this site, as being shallow or young (immature). I won't come back to this thread because I'd perpetuate this nonsense by responding further.

-- BobG (rgregorio@ibm.net), December 18, 1998.

Ok....for a 14yr old...I don't know much about the adult world but I can recognise unhealthy behavior.Please....why are you lot ALWAYS fighting about Kate Winslet???....I bet if she read this, she would think that you are all obsessive psychos???....(I will excuse Kelly cos she likes kate as much as I)...Get on with your lives and stop fighting over something that has nothing to do with you and which doesn't need every opinion being slagged off.....So what someone doesn't think kates husband is attractive,Kate does so leave her alone. You're not going to exactly get married to him and for god's sake, your husbands and wives may seem attractive to you but not to other people.Stop bloody argueing over a celebrity.Life has a purpose....not drooling over a filmstar and critising every single thing that you find about her.I think she has everything now and personally I think her husband is attractive!!...I'm glad she is happy...but I don't rave on and on about her 24/7....She is a person like everyone else. Please people, get a life.Yeah you can admire her....just don't OVER admire her.Its not healthy, especially an infatuation with a person of whom you may never meet and will never know properly.I am a fan....just not an obsessive stalker type one. Kate is lovely but so are many other people who have never even set foot on a stage to sing/act or make fools of themselves. The real world is better than the make-belive ones that you try to live as it doesn't work.Fantasize if you must but don't try and bring it out into reality.‰

-- Jo Duggan (JoWDuggan@aol.com), December 19, 1998.

Okay BOB,

Just for your information....I AM one of those odd couples who walk around in the mall ect. I have been in a relationship for over two years now even though my boyfiend does not look like a chippindale dancer. He certainly isn't perfect and neither am I. Now, what were you saying about my age and not really knowing that realationship do NOT have anything to do with physical appearances??? Care to insult me more when you know so little about me?

{added paragraph breaks}

IF YOU ASK ME I TOTALLY DO NOT FIND KATE WINSLET BEAUTIFUL NOR DO I FIND HER TO BE SUCH AN ATTRACTIVE SEX SYMBOL,ESPECIALLY BACK IN THE DAYS OF STARRING IN TITANIC! TO ME I THINK SHE IS DOWNRIGHT PLAIN. AND A LITTLE BIT ON THE UGLY SIDE AS WELL! I HAPPEN TO AGREE WITH THAT HETEROSEXUAL GUY DAN WHO SAYS HE KNOWS JUST AS WELL AS I DO THAT GUYS WOULD NOT GO CRAZY FOR KATE WINSLET. I MYSELF PERSONALLY DO NOT SEE WHAT THERE IS TO GO NUTS OVER ABOUT HER. SHE'S NOT DROP- DEAD GORGEOUS NOR IS SHE A MAJOR HEARTSTOPPER. PLEASE,LET'S BE REALISTIC HERE, SHE IS NO SHARON STONE!!! SHE'S JUST NO STRIKING BEAUTY QUEEN! I THINK THAT OTHER GUY IS A LITTLE MAD SAYING THAT HE WAS CAPTIVATED THE MOMENT SHE STEPPED OUT OF THE CAR. PLEASE! HOENSTLY,HOW CAN YOU THINK SHE IS ONE SERIOUSLY BEAUTIFUL WOMAN. SHE REALLY AIN'T. SORRY,BUT SHE JUST AIN'T! I KNOW FOR SURE THAT NOT ALL THE GUYS IN THE WORLD ARE WILD ABOUT HER AND FIND HER THAT BEAUTIFUL. BECAUSE AGAIN,SHE JUST REALLY ISN'T! THERE ARE TONS OF TRULY GORGEOUS WOMEN OUT THERE. KATE ISN'T REALLY WHAT I WOULD CALL ONE OF THEM,SORRY!

-- VINNIE (LOVE2FLIP@AOL.COM), December 10, 2004.

Hmmm, Vinnie, what sort of girls do you go for? 12 year old pre- pubescent lookalikes? Kate Winslet is beautiful but in a different way to these plastic enhanced barbie dolls that grace the screens! What celeb do u find alluring?

-- Jo Duggan (joduggan340@hotmail.com), December 22, 2004.

hell! barbie dolls are cuter than kate. let's face it she is no sharonn stone or donna reed! they are truly beautiful!

-- vinnie (love2flip@aol.com), December 22, 2004.

just to set all of you straight with a reality check here: KATE WINSLET IS NOT BEAUTIFUL,okay? She just ain't! And that is true! Yeah, she may be attractive becasue she keeps her body natural the way it is and doesn't starve herself to look hot in flicks. so she shows her true colors about the shape of her body. big deal. it don't mean she is beautiful cause she just ain't. anything is prettier than kate winslet. her face is too full and ugly! she just ain't my type,yo!

-- reynaldo (reyoh@yahoo.com), December 22, 2004.

totally true. i agree. what is the big fuss about kate winslet? it is true that she is not drop-dead-gorgeous or quite a fly babe! fine, people have respect for her because she stays her real self in the showbiz and doesn't try to be a stick to look good in the hollywood world, that is cool, but c'mon, let's not over exaggerate about this woman and categorize her as a beauty queen because she isn't! you are totally right, vinnie and reynaldo, she definitley isn't beautiful! and i back you guys up on that 100% because it is in fact true!!!

-- charles johannsen (cj@hotmail.com), December 22, 2004.

well, she certainly did not win leonardo dicaprio's heart in reality. and i certainly don't blame him for that and for what he stated in one of his interviews in which he said: I LOVE KATE,BUT I NEVER TRIED TO HAVE A ROMANTIC REALTIONSHIP WITH HER.IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TOO AND ALL I WANTED WAS TO BE FRIENDS WITH HER!!! who can blame him for feeling this way, right? hell, i would rather die than ever have to settle for someone like kate winslet. please, man! she just isn't my type either. i bet she is hardly any guys type. you don't see many guys ranting and raving about kate. she just doesn't have what it takes to make guys go wild over her! I applaud leo for what he said. it's true i too am not on cloud 9 when i look at her!

-- luis felipe (luisfelipe@aol.com), December 22, 2004.

you are all absolutley right! kate winslet is not very pretty nor is she very beautiful! i just respect the fact that she keeps herself real and natural and doesn't try to be a fake hotshot like all these artificial actresses who think you have to be super-skinny to be a hot actress and make it in all areas of showbiz! i like the fact that she at least has got meat on her bones and is not a super-duper skeleton! that is why i believe she makes a good role model for actresses. beauty has nothing to do with it because she isn't really beautiful facially! just full out attractive in shape! that's what i think!

-- thomas (tomboy@yahoo.com), December 26, 2004.

thomas, i couldn't agree more with you. you couldn't be anymore right on what you say. i also believe that kate is known to be attractive because she keeps herself real and that really stands out for an actress in hollywood. no,she doesn't have a truly beautiful face,i agree, but just the fact that she keeps herself the real kate makes her appear just attractive.

-- hubert (hphotman@aol.com), December 26, 2004.

personally, i think kate winslet has turned out to be very attractive. Beautiful? No! But very attractive? Absolutley! i agree too with all u guys that say you don't find her features naturally stunning! i agree because her face really isn't anything to rave about! she is no heartstopper! she keeps herself real and doesn't try to make her body a stick figure for the hollywood biz! that is what i respect about her and find attractive about her body!
