NO HE IS NOT. WHY IS HE DATING MODELS (FEMALE!) THEN.

MY SISTER CHECKED...

-- Anton Masterovoy (AAAA13@worldnet.att.net), February 28, 1998.

He could be Bi if he's dating female models. That's the whole thing with being Bi, you date males and females!

-- Michelle (rose@titanic.com), March 01, 1998.

What does his sexual preferences have to do with the Titanic? And why are boats refered to as female?

-- What difference does it make? (noneofyour@biz.net), March 02, 1998.

Leo did a movie called Total Eclipse and he played a gay poet and since then the rumors have flown that he was gay. HE WAS ACTING!!!! And personaly I'm tired of hearing that he is gay or bi by a bunch of inmature people that can't respect him for his acting. Get over it!! Who cares if he was bi or gay, he's still a human being and he's still the best best actor I've seen in a long time.

-- Shaunna (Shaunna@visualmetrics.com), March 02, 1998.

Wise answer Shaunna.

I am greatly mystified what his sexual preference has to do with anything...would it help a persons fantasy life? Too bad. Its his private buisness. I just wish to see a whole lot more of Leonardo Dicaprio in the future. Brillant actor.

-- Connie Ostlund (sorka@teleport.com), March 03, 1998.

I have changed my name from Rose4732@aol.com toJuliet7434@aol.com so if you have an answer e-mail me there instead of Rose

-- Juliet7434/Rose4732 (juliet7434@aol.com), March 21, 1998.

I say "What the fuck?" Leo is not gay or bi. he never said that he was. People just think: "Hey, middle 20's, single male, not even a girlfriend, must be gay or bi." OK, whatever. Besides, what do his sexual prefrences have to do with his acting? "D-uh, if he's bi, he'll never work again." WHO GIVES A DAMN?!? He's still one hell of an actor.

-- Juliet A E Brisch (noway@sorry.com), March 25, 1998.

i really dont think he is gay or bi. i agree with a lot of people. in the movie, "total eclipse" he was JUST ACTING! and you really can't believe anything on the radio. they just do that sort of thing for money. sure, he can't be totally gay, but there is a chance he could be bi, but...who cares!?

-- Holly (RosePietras@ij.net), April 07, 1998.

I don't understand why people care if he;s gay or bi...personally, his sexual life does not interest me...I don't think he is either but I'm not going 2 say he's not b/c i don't know as a fact that he's not...just b/c he PLAYED a gay person in a movie dosn't mean he is really gay...i think no one really knows except 4 him & the people he told...and i am pretty sure no one on here knows him personally...

-- Kate (hello@aol.com), April 11, 1998.

Would you ppl get a life!!! "i love leo" u dont even know him. Your very sad, go out and get a real boyfriend. If hes gay hes gay, if hes bi hes bi, if hes straight hes straight! Its not gonna alter your life in any way! so get over it.

-- yeah right (dath@rocketmail.com), April 12, 1998.

I think he is a bloody gay...you know why....because if there is no wind....can a tree move?? So...what i mean is that...surely there was a witness or something that could connect him to this gossip...!! Maybe there is no evidence of that now....but we just have to wait and see!!!

-- pendor (pendor@rocket.com), April 15, 1998.

Pendor-Speaking of trees, you are barking up the wrong one! Many of the rumors have started because Leo played a gay character in one of his movies! He may have a slightly androgynous look, but sexually, I believe he is all man! Not that it matters concerning his acting abilities......I don't know why this thread keeps going on and on!

-- Can we just drop it? (foo@bar.com), April 15, 1998.

The fact is, I have a friend who lives in L.A., and she says it is (or was, before he became famous) very common to see Leo with one of many boyfriends, it was no big deal, and everyone knew he was gay. But really..... who cares?

-- Gilbert Grape (GIlbert@grape.com), April 18, 1998.

I think that people spread rumors about Leo because he is so.......... Fine and they are jealous. They just want to be like him.

-- Julia Anderson (ROSE4733@AOL.COM), April 22, 1998.

My auntie goes to the same hairdresser as the fx director of Titanic and HE said they had a hell of a time on the set in Mexico keeping Leo's flaming homo antics under wraps. It's a shame people can say "he's just acting" when he's playing a queer but they really believe that he would shag Kate Winslet. Oh well. The other gossip from Mexico was that James Cameron was a real asshole but we all learned that from the oscars.

-- Lutecia Ferburner (gweilo@hotmail.com), April 25, 1998.

I think that he is not gay or bi, and anyway what does it matter? Before it used to be that ppl were against African-Americans and immigrants. LOOK AT US! We say our country is equal and gives fair opportunity, but it doesn't! We are now against those ppl who chose a different way of life that we are not used to (Gay or Bisexual people). That's not right. But Leonardo DiCaprio is a wonderful actor, and that is ALL that matters.

-- Mehvish (zaidimh@bah.com), May 28, 1998.

In defense of those above who have questioned DiCaprio's sexual orientation: When discussing a movie that has derived much of its success from teenage girls who fantasize about DiCaprio, I don't think an inquiry as to his sexual orientation is completely out of bounds. No one would want to fantasize about someone who might have absolutely no interest in them from the start. It's an entirely different question from whether he is a good actor and a good person. If ( like me) you don't "fantasize" about DiCaprio, the question is irrelevant. But I won't be judging those who do find the question relevant to be homophobes. All that I would ask: If you don't know for sure, one way or the other (and I suspect none of the above respondents do), SHUT UP with the gossip!

-- (foo@bar.com), May 28, 1998.

I've refrained from commenting on this topic because LdC's sexual orientation really is of no one's business. No more though. This jerk who just wrote in (above me) needs to get a clue. What he/she is saying, in essence, is that teenage girls who want to date Leo are entitled to know his sexuality so that they know whether to spend time pursuing him. Give me a @#$%ing break, you loser. Even if he were straight, all these groupies would just be an annoyance to him. And in my humble opinion, most of the guys who have been involved in this discussion are either gay, bi, or curious. Finally, to the freak right above who endorses sexual discrimination, you're not kidding anyone. No one has the "right" to know anyone's sexual preference. I bet you've never been in a relationship.

-- Ruth de Witt Bukater (foo2@bar.com), May 28, 1998.

I understand what you're trying to say Ruth, but you don't have to be so rude! Everyone's entitled to speak their mind and dream their dreams, please don't tell them what to do. So what if they love Leo? It's perfectly usual teenage behavior! Give 'em a few years and they'll come out of it. If they like to dream, let them. For I believe we will have nothing if we don't have dreams.

-- Rose (rose364@earthlink.net), May 28, 1998.

Ha ha ha. "Ruth" needs to reread the comments above her's with less of a knee-jerk politically-correct sensibility and a greater sense of irony. Hint: Pay particular attention to the last sentence. BTW: Isn't it curious that "Ruth" feels it necessary to add that, in her humble (no kidding) opinion, "most of the guys who have been involved in this discussion are either gay, bi, or curious", as if that's an insult. I wonder who the REAL homophobe might be? Or does she just hate gay MEN?

-- (foo@bar.com), May 28, 1998.

It comes down to this: will it hurt or help LdC if the world thinks he's gay or straight. Think of other gay/bi celebrities...Tom Cruise, Marlon Brando, Rock Hudson, Don Mathews, Whitney Houston, Jodie Foster. I know many of you don't know about this, but PLEASE PLEASE refrain from writing in about your shock. This conversation about sexuality has to come to an end, and I'm to blame for perpetuating it myself, but it's to give some of you a reality check. ANyway, these stars' careers would be (would have been) ended quickly were their sexuality known. If you think the days of discrimination based on sexual orientation are over, you need look no further than Ellen. Why did her show decline after that coming out episode? Not because it wasn't funny, but because most of America (that is, most of nongay America) thought it had become exclusively gay. How do you think my gay friends feel about exclusively straight shows (most shows)? Yes,it's the 90's, but the fact is that coming out is a ticket to failure in many circles, including Hollywood. Girls, fooster, and whoever else fantasizes about LdC, fine! Just consider the repercussions of doing so in a public forum.

-- Ruth de Witt Bukater (foo2@bar.com), May 29, 1998.

Ruth, you've got to wake up and smell the coffee, girl... I will agree that Leo's preference in no way affects anything about Titanic, and to get in a discussion about it here strays far from the purpose of these particular boards, but you've made some pretty sweeping statements here. I hear a double standard. People who share your position will cry "it shouldn't matter!". So when those who don't care for that lifestyle go "fine, it doesn't matter...I don't watch Ellen anymore because it REALLY isn't funny", people like you shout "oh you're just saying that because she's gay!" Give me a break! If all these sexual preferences are irrelevant, then people who live gay lifestyles should shut up about it and stop trying to shove it down my throat. If Leo is gay, I see him as no less a person. However, I do not agree with that lifestyle. And if I do not agree with the lifestyle, that's my right, and you can stop your whining...

-- Jack (foo@bar.com), May 29, 1998.

Jack,

The media interviewed people and learned why Ellen's ratings went down; it was because it became "an exclusively gay show." OK? As for gay people "shoving it down your throat", how about gay people feeling straight lifestyles being shoved down their throats? Or is the straight lifestyle just the superior one? I'm glad you accept Leo as gay or not, and people accept you straight or not. You don't care for a gay lifestyle, and many don't care for your straight lifestyle. If I don't agree with your lifestyle, that too is my right, so shove THAT down your throat.

-- Sandeep (kibbles@bit.com), May 29, 1998.

I have to agree with one of the earlier writers who put it so succinctly (and Thomas in his wisdom didn't censor it): "What the fuck?" He did a great acting job, and any pimple faced computer geek, male or female, who expects to get him in the sack needs to wake up and smell the coffee, to employ a major cliche!!!! I have yet to hear someone say, "Oh, he's gay, so I'm not going to see it for the 5th time."

"Ellen" was cancelled simply because not enough people were watching it. The show had become less a humorous, diverting half-hour sitcom and more a stridently pro-lesbian propaganda show. If straight people (@95% of the general population) don't want to watch it, it is because they don't relate to it. That doesn't mean they all hate Ellen DeGeneris or the fact that she's lesbian any more than (hypothetically) those who wouldn't watch a program called "The Yo Yo Ma Cello Hour" hate Asians. They may just not like cello music. And there's nothing wrong with that. As another example, there is a very high percentage of gay creative input in all the recent Disney animated films. Families flock to see them. If these same people put out a Disney film featuring a homosexual romance, the vast majority of straights would stay away in droves. There have been, from time to time, boycotts of Disney films for various dubious reasons (by both left and right). All have failed miserably. To sum up: It's the product that matters, Ellen, not your sexual orientation!

Response to LEO GAY OR BI? {question closed}

This has finally become an interesting conversation, despite some of the rudeness. My compliments to all parties. I am sorry to see censorship of any kind, however. If this thread is allowed to flourish, I do not see why the other one (survey of people's sexual preferences) is not. Caledon, well said. As a straight person myself, I agree with everything you stated with one exception: your calling "Ellen" a "pro-lesbian propaganda" show. It was a show about relationships, as many shows are. This one happened to cover the complexities of gay ones. I doubt any one would like "Seinfeld" to be labelled a "pro-straight propaganda" show.

Response to LEO GAY OR BI? {question mostly closed}

Um, I don't think 95% of the population is straight. What textbook did you get that from? From what I've seen, 40-50% is gay and bi combined. TRUST ME. ("I trust you") Don't ask me how I know.

Response to LEO GAY OR BI? {question mostly closed}

JJ: I DID overstate that a bit (about Ellen being a pro-lesbian propaganda show). The problem was really that Ellen D. was using her show first as an "educational" tool and only afterwards as entertainment. There is no doubt (Ellen D. has admitted as much) that the show had an agenda. This is not why people watch sitcoms. I, for one, cringe whenever I hear of "a very special Home Improvement" or "an important episode of Friends". Give me a break! As for "Seinfeld" - it could be considered the quintessential anti-heterosexual show on TV! They were all jerks! If these characters were portrayed as gay, every homosexual advocacy group would have been up in arms. But to say that it was about "heterosexual relationships" is as meaningful as saying it was about "two-armed people". If several of the characters in the show had only one arm, that would be worthy of pointing out because it is not the norm. But the show was hilarious, and I (as a two-armed heterosexual) didn't mind. Just to bring this back to LdC, what I stated (above the first comment by "Ruth") was that I understand why the teenage girls who fantasize about him would be interested in his sexual orientation; I do not consider them "homophobes" as many of the previous respondents implied. But, I pointed out (though perhaps not clearly enough) that there should be no speculation. Anything but a direct statement from LdC himself should not be taken seriously, and should not have been offered. And it is completely up to LdC whether or not he would want to respond to such a query. As to 40 to 50% of the general population being gay or bi-, that is so ludicrous as to defy further comment.

Response to LEO GAY OR BI? {question (mostly) closed}

Cal, we both need to get a life! It's Friday night, and we should each be with that respective preference. Don't pretend to know what portion of the population is gay/bi/straight, and I won't. Some things are too personal to reveal, but I say with confidence I know the number of gays/bi's is closer to mine than yours. Believe your textbook though!

Response to LEO GAY OR BI? {question (mostly) closed}

hey idiot, one final comment. i wasn't calling those girls homophobes. they just want to get into leo's pants. but as smarter people like you (ego booster you want and need!) should know, information can hurt, and "Ruth" was right about it still being generally socially unacceptable to be gay, still. if some gay guy that leo fooled around with (assumption based on nothing) stated he knew for a fact leo was gay, you were saying that's okay - it's not, got it? it's up to each individual to admit it him or herself on his or her terms. bye.

Response to LEO GAY OR BI? {question (mostly) closed}

IF Leo is gay, that's about as relevant as my favorite color being blue. However, what I can't understand is why it's so hard to believe that homosexuality just might be (gasp, heaven forbid) unhealthy as well as just plain wrong. Who am I to judge, you ask? I'm not. However, I do base my understanding of what is right based on a higher standard. "Uh, Oh" they will say..."not another bible beater". Not at all, just one who understands that truth is not relative, otherwise truth ceases to exist. In this case, it is it is either right or wrong. I, for one would rather answer to God rather than someone who has a political agenda (and that's all this really is---a moral issue turned political).

-- Rod (foo@bar.com), June 02, 1998.

Now this question is "open" again. I thought you closed it, Thomas??? Could this interest of yours in continuing this sordid and irrelevant discussion reflect some sexual ambiguity on your part? Obviously you think di Caprio is gay or bi...are the rumours also true about you? It's nothing to be ashamed of (honest!!!!, but why you insist on touting this is beyond me. Just curious, to each his own!

this response is to Kim Jackson first then everyone else later. Kim, does Leo know about your problem? HA!! HA!!! As for the rest of this topic i have no comment as it's noones bus. except his so everyone get a life!

-- gwen ferrell (gdferrell@blomand.net), August 21, 2002.

People Why must you ask these questions? Do any of you realise that what sexual preferance leo might be could seriously destroy his career? you have to take into concideration that rummors can not only ruin ones reputation but they can also kill. look at the mathew hate crime? he was murdered because he was gay! leo has more plublicity and in doing so becomes a bigger target creating a larger example for homophobic people. so not only does he have his career at stake but his life as well. and who ever said that like 5% of the population is gay i will tell you this now...your wrong... i'd say its closer to about 35-45% that is gay/bi and that is only counting peole who are out. people dont realise that it is a life threatning disicion. But i do know that we will get our rights just like the african americans got theirs and women got theirs we will eventually get ours because it is right of course "good and evil is determined by a persons morals and each persons morals differ from person to person" but think about it it would be the same if we told a stright person that they had to love a man (if it was a man) or a woman (if it was a woman) how would you feel if you were forced to hide whoo you were? if you could be killed because of how you felt? i'll tell you it would piss you to fuck off... and you would have that right so why cant we have ours?if he is gay or bi that is his desicion not ours even if it would be nice to think that and I have a feeling that he is but untill he is ready (if he is gay or bi) or even if he is never ready it should be his call to tell anyone...and for those people who say they are with leo all i can do is laugh (excpecialy the one about the baby) that really gave me a chukle... well i think i made my point i will probably return to read other peoples views into concideration but untill i see evidence that your side of this controversy is correct then i have to go with my morals and my feelings... Riv're

-- Luke Riv're (nyte_gryphon@yahoo.com), November 25, 2002.

You people need to get a life! Rumours fly about MANY actors, but they keep their sexuality under wraps to avoid the frenzy that people like YOU would all create.

If you're a gay guy and you fantasise about Leo.. fine! If you're a straight girl and you fantasise about Leo.. FINE. It ain't ever gonna happen anyways so let your fantasies RUN WILD - if your life is so devoid of substance that all you can do is fantasise about people you'll probably never even MEET, then you need serious reality checks guys.

Just get out there and do something with your lives.. stop idolising others and getting upset if a part of their lifestyle doesn't agree with yours.

Losers.

I'll save the big speeches, as it was so long ago, but I am having fun looking old texts. Gay, Bi, Str8, assumption made on a daily basis on us all, who can say whats someones personal inner thoughts may display. NOBODY! (to use the masses of obviously stuck caps lock in this convo list) I so wish I could have contibuted back when these messages appeared.

-- Leighton (leightonx1@yahoo.co.uk), November 11, 2003.

Okay. Look, Uh...Personally... If Leo is gay/bi I'd be very happy. NO. I am NOT a gay/bi sexually orientated male. Infact I'm a lesbian. I just love Leo as an actor, even if he was some fat bald....urr.. Nevermind. No matter what, he attracts me through his acting. Why are people taking it in a negative way? For such a young sucessful actor to be labeled as any sort of homosexual orientation and still continue with his career unphased is amazing, considering the assholes that unfortunately ...BASICALLY- Make up the home we call Earth. Yus. I'm not arguing with anyone, but just speaking my mind. If you have something to say to me, I don't care. Whatever, enjoy. :)
