Kate Winslet's hair color in movie

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TitanicShack : One Thread

Hi. I know this question was asked way long ago, but I can't seem to locate it now, so I must ask again. Does anyone know where I can find out what coloring was used to dye Kate's hair for Titanic? I think in the other reply, someone gave the name and address of the hairstylist, but I am not sure. I would really love to dye my hair this color, and would appreciate any help. Thanks!

excuse me Juilet where do you get your information??? Kate's real hair color is a meduim brown. Your best bet is to go to a salon and have them try and match it or take a picture from the movie and go to your local drugstore. Be careful though that shade of red was probally mixed specifically for Kate by a professional, as they kept the color the same thorough out the movie. Red does not work on every one.

-- Shaunna (Shaunna@visualmetrics.com), March 25, 1998.

Actually, Kate Winslet's real hair color is blonde.

-- Jennifer (foo@bar.com), March 25, 1998.

Hate to prove you wrong again, but a good indicator of real hair color is the eyebrows, Kate's are dark brown. I would know this because I have similar hair and it does sometimes bleach to a blond in summer or with certain hair coloring or with Sun In. Look at some old pictures and her movies and you will see that I am right.

-- Shaunna (Shaunna@visualmetrics.com), March 26, 1998.

Sorry Shauna, but I am a very dedicated Kate Winslet fan and I know for a fact that her real hair color is blonde. She dies her hair red and brown for her movies, along with her eyebrows. A professional probably does this for her. Also, go to any Kate Winslet webpage and you will read that her real color is blonde.

-- Jennifer (foo@bar.com), March 26, 1998.

Have you seen her movie Jude? I could get grapic bit I highly doubt she had that dyed too!

-- Shaunna (Shaunna@visualmetrics.com), March 26, 1998.

No, I haven't, even though I want to. Oh well, let's just forget about it. I guess all those people posted the wrong information as her being blonde. I guess it doesn't really matter what her real hair color is. Sorry, I didn't mean to be so technical about it.

-- Jennifer (sdebesa@worldbank.org), March 26, 1998.

I know what you're talking about though, when you say you doubt she had that dyed too!

-- Jennifer (sdebesa@worldbank.org), March 26, 1998.

did'nt mean to get so worked up about it, but I've seen so much mis-information that it kills me to see it. Honest mistake. Jude was on the Sundance channel last week and on The Movie Channel off and on for the past few months. Worth a see although the end was very sad.

-- Shaunna (Shaunna@visualmetrics.com), March 26, 1998.

Yes, her real hair color is blond. But in my new magazine it said for a color similar to hers in the movie to try, Clairol Natural Instincts in Cinnaberry or Terracota. I hope it works, let me know.

-- Joanna (joannac@netins.net), April 11, 1998.

hi..umm...i read in teen people that she is a natural brunette...it say... " A natural brunette, Kate loved going red for the movie, says Los Angeles-based stylist Cambell McAuley, who cuts her hair. (For a similar look, try Clariol Natural Instincts in Cinnaberry or Terracotta)" I totally understand what you mean. She has BEUTIFUL hair in the movie, but all I'm going on is that she is brunette, it said in the magazine & thats what I'm basing my belief on. (In case u don't believe that i saw that in a magazine, it was TeenPeople mag, issue May 1998, page 48 under "hair") thanks:):):)

-- Kate (emily0303@aol.com), April 11, 1998.

I'm confused about what her real hair color is. That magazine said brunette, but I was reading Kate Winslet's diary while on the Titanic set and she wrote something like "my hair is back to blonde now." I guess if we ever met her we would have to ask her ourselves what her real haircolor is.

-- Jennifer (sdebesa@worldbank.org), April 11, 1998.

Thank you Kate for backing me up. This has irritated me for so long because to me it is so obvious that she is a brunette. And people try and say they are devoted Kate fans!!

-- Shaunna (Shaunna@visualmetrics.com), April 11, 1998.

Jennifer, maybe she was referring to the fact that she is used to her hair being blond from all the hair coloring. From experience this has happened to me several times. I do color my hair a lot and about five months ago I had it dyed a shade of red and it is now blond. My colorist says its the peroxide in the dye that turns it blond. This is such and honest mistake for people who don't know. I even had a drivers license lady say she though my natural color was blond and wanted me to change it from brown.

-- Shaunna (Shaunna@visualmetrics.com), April 11, 1998.

That makes sense Shaunna. I wouldn't know because I've never dyed my hair. I've used Sun-In a few times, but that's it. I saw a picture of Kate Winslet when she was about my age (16) and the color she had was brown. She probably prefers having blonde hair and is so used to having it that she refers to her hair as that way. I never meant to argue with you. Thanks for the insight on how dyes change your natural hair color.

-- Jennifer (sdebesa@worldbank.org), April 11, 1998.

Oh God! What's the world coming to?! You guys are arguing on the color of Kate Winslet's hair! Wake up! Personally, I believe her hair color was red, but I'm not sure. Please, don't start arguing with me. I am not a dedicated Kate fan, since Titanic was her only movie I have seen, but I really liked her there. As for the person who asked the question, take the first person who answered's advice. If you believe red would look good on you, that is.

-- Alyssa (dcfarms@clear.lakes.com), April 13, 1998.

I know for a fact that her natural hair colour is dirty blonde. But she prefers her hair redish brown.

-- justin mencfeld (donza@sprint.ca), April 17, 1998.

I CANT BELIEVE YOU CALL YOURSELVES FANS?HER NATURAL HAIR COLOR IS BLOND.THERE IS A PICTURE OF HER WHEN SHE WAS SEVEN SHE HAD BLOND HAIR. YOU THINK YOURE SO SMART THIS IS A 12 YEAR OLD TALKING TO YOU!

-- leticia elizondo (RICKYJE@AOL.COM), August 03, 1998.

All I have to say is graphic scenes in Jude, and eyebrows

-- Meredith (kitzkidz@glasscity.net), October 06, 1998.

WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO!?!? WHY DOES IT MATTER IF HER HAIR IS NATURALLY BLOND, RED, OR BRUNETTE? FOR YOUR INFORMATION, I'M NOT A DECDICATED FAN OF HERS, BUT I THINK YOU PEOPLE ARE PSYCHO ABOUT HER COMPLEXION!!!!

-- Charon (silentcharon@hotmail.com), October 12, 1998.

GEEZ!! I DON'T WANT TO UPSET ANYONE OR ANYTHING, BUT MY PERSONAL BELIEF IS THAT KATE WINSLET HAS NATURALLY LIGHT BROWN HAIR, WHICH TENDS TO GET DULLED TO BLONDE BY LOTS OF THINGS (I.E. SUN, DYES, YOU KNOW, THAT TYPE OF THING......)AND I THINK THAT SHE LIKES TO HAVE IT DYED TO RED OR REDDISH BROWN, ALSO I THINK HER HAIR IS NATURALLY CURLY...JUST A HUNCH, THAT'S ALL, WHICHEVER THE CASE, IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

ANYWAYS, THE POINT IS THAT SHE HAS VERY BEAUTIFUL HAIR AND WE ALL SHOULD BE JEALOUS OF HER NOT ONLY HER HAIR, HER TALENT, HER FIGURE, EVERYTHING.......SHE'S NOW AN OBJECT OF LUST FOR ALL AGES OF MEN, AND ABOVE EVERYTHING ELSE, SHE HAS A TERRIFIC PERSONALITY, WHICH I THINK IS THE MOST IMPORTANT, LET'S ADMIT IT, WE'RE ALL JEALOUS OF HER...

I ADMIT IT, I AM VERY JEALOUS OF HER BEAUTY, IF ONLY I LOOKED ANYTHING LIKE HER, SHE'S SO BEAUTIFUL, TALENTED, THAT GIRL HAS GOT IT ALL, AND IT'S ABOUT TIME WE ALL ADMIT OUUR JEALOUSY!!!!!!!!

ALSO, I WANNA SAY HI TO ANYONE READING THIS, AND PLEASE FEEL FREE TO E-MAIL ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS/COMMENTS, OK? TAKE CARE EVERYONE, KEEP SMILING =)

-- Sharlee Ross (sharlee266@hotmail.com), October 13, 1998.

Hey guys. Now I don't wont to upset anyone or start a ridiculous argument, but just for the record, her hair is naturally straight and blond. Now please, no one start an argument, this is just an innocent answer. I have a freind that grew up with her and she sent me a picture of her when she was quite young. She has a beautiful smile, even at age 12! I know quite a lot about her, mostly her hair, since that seems to be an area of controversy. Hope I could set the records straight. Kelly :-)

-- Kelly (foo@bar.com), October 13, 1998.

Now I don't want to cause any more grief than has already occured, but the fact of the matter is that she doesn't have hair. Entertainment Weekly (March 1998) states that she wore 10 wigs throughout filming of the movie, all beautiful and carefully crafted, I might add. She's beautiful, talented, and has a wonderful personality, as the writer above said. And if there were a category for Best Wig, she would have won it. Just my Titanic 10 cents.

-- BobG (Bob@bob.bob), October 14, 1998.

I like to add to Bob's comments that Kate is really extremely thin, almost like one of those "heroin chic" models. A friend of mine who knew her claims she could almost pass for a Treblinka survivor. A large portion of the makeup budget was blown on extensive body prosthetics and masks to make her appear heavy (as they did with Eddie Murphy in "The Nutty Professor"). They had to because Kate, try as she may, could not gain as much as a pound even with the catering truck parked just outside her trailer during the filming. (The famous food-poisoning incident really resulted from a disgruntled caterer who had a run-in with Cameron who belittled him for not fattening up Winslet.) Cameron's taunts af "Kate Weighs-a-lot" were actually a rare example of bitter irony from an overworked, but normally genial director who had too much weighing on his mind and not enough weight on his leading lady.

Why was all this necessary? Perfectionism. Cameron thought, for realism's sake, that a thin girl couldn't possibly have survived on that flotsam for so long - not enough insulation. He even sought to emphasize Rose's zaftig figure by choosing the smallest, wimpiest looking love-interest possible, than have him traipse around in a stolen overcoat that was at least 4 sizes too big for him for the second half of the movie. THIS IS ALL TRUE! All I can say is that it worked well. Cameron is a genius!

-- Dalton (foo@bar.com), October 14, 1998.

Not to start an argument - this is just for the simple fun for people who want to know - she actually had hair extensions. Her hair was shoulder length. I found out from my older friend who knew her ( as I mentioned before ) . when I asked how they got her hair to look like that she told me that Kate had said she had extensions, and her hair was "an aweful pool of chemicals". That is to the best of Kate's knowledge, that is. However, I might be wrong, she might have worn a wig. I guess the only person who truly knows is Cameron himself! Hope I could be of any help! Kelly :-)

-- Kelly (foo@bar.com), October 15, 1998.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't want to start a fight or anything, but, as I said, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY (March 1998) stated she wore 10 wigs throughout the shoot, and I don't think any of us know better than these well-reputed journalists who lay their lives on the line in Kosovo or the political crossfire in Hollywood. Directors like Cameron can't be bothered with this type of inquiry, especially when the press has covered it. I don't remember reading anything about extensions, but if you want to spread rumors, that's your perogative.

-- BobG (BobG@bob.bob), October 15, 1998.

You boys are killing me! LOL!

-- Gilded Age Junkie (gildedagejunkie@yahoo.com), October 16, 1998.

About this hair thing. Let me set you straight. I used to date her when I was studying aboad in England. So I should know what her natural hair color is. It is light brown. And for the scenes in Jude, she did dye her pubic hair also. It was just for her own personal kicks. I should know what that natural color was also since I had my face in it numerous times. Mmmmmmmm! By the way, Kate is very good in bed in case you were wondering.

-- Mark (jrita@okstate.edu), October 25, 1998.

Mark, you are one weird puppy!

-- Emma (dilemma76@hotmail.com), October 25, 1998.

And a friggin' liar...

-- Gilded Age Junkie (gildedagejunkie@yahoo.com), October 26, 1998.

Not to mention an obsessed pshycopath.....

-- Kelly (foo@bar.com), October 26, 1998.

Whoa, hold on there folks. Mark just barely crossed that yellow line on the comedy interstate that divides "hilarious" from "offensive". Perhaps it's just been a long journey and he briefly fell asleep at the wheel. No need to run him over with a semi. Especially since he's driving a Yugo. Oh no! What's that! Aaaaggggghhhhhhh......

-- Road kill (fo@bar.com), October 26, 1998.

Okay, THAT was a gross remark. And what do you mean just barely crossed the yellow line? I think he took a flying leap over it. Saying the dateing thing, fine, but the rest you should have left out!

-- Miranda Swearingen (Kylen1@hotmail.com), October 31, 1998.

I am not going to even try to convince anyone to share my opinion on Kate's natural hair color, but..... I believe it to be: champagne blond, or dirty brown. I have also seen the younger Kate pics, but as you grow from age 2-10 your hair can go through many changes. I know! I was born a strawberry blonde, which turned to a light blonde, then to my current color. Yes, sun can lighten hair, and add highlights. In the perfect light, I appear to have red hair, but it's really the same color all the time!

-- Erica (Berryface@aol.com), November 11, 1998.

Ok...I've read all your little arguments and I think its time I give you a hairdye Kate possibly used or most definitly used: Henna in extra red.I use it on my hair and it comes out the same colour as hers was.My natural hair colour is dark blonde and I believe Kate is a natural blonde as I have seen pics of her when she was 10 and 8 and her hair is darkish blonde with a coarse look to it.You can get Henna from the bodshop.I dyed my hair because I loved it in Titanic.I think Kate Winslet is the most gorgeous and talented, down to earth actress in the world.I wish her all the luck in the future with her new husband and film career.Good luck Kate followers...Glad to know other people idolise her too!!...she's beautiful.‰

-- Jo Duggan (JoWDuggan@aol.com), December 06, 1998.

I would just like to confirm the comment made by Mark. I personally have not had sex with her, but I know for a fact that Mark has. You see, I studied abroad with Mark. He is telling the truth. I admit that he has a rude way of telling the story, but it is true. He is just bitter because she cheated on him and dumped him because she said that his penis was too big. Other than that, she is a very nice girl.

-- Eric Nauni (wwgoose@hotmail.com), December 12, 1998.

Eric, why are you so intent on proving that Mark had sex with her? We certainly don't need to know that - I think it is personal and should be left alone, not spread about on the internet. I'd hate to think that Kate would dump a man based on the size of his penis, but we don't really know her, or her personal life indeed. It is rather innapropriate to be letting all of is in on her personal life. This board doesn't need to go any father than it already has.I hope she is a nice girl and stays that way. But this info should be between her and Mark, and we should respect that. Besides, this board began with the simple question of 'what color is Kate's hair' not 'what are the intimate details of Kate's personal life'. I'm not dissing you Eric, but let's not share details. As I said before, this should be between her and Mark.

-- Kelly (foo@bar.com), December 12, 1998.

I really love Kate and for the most part I think you guys obsession over my cousin's hair is a bit crazy. Kate however seems to absolutely adore the attention. I came here today to tell you what Kate had to say. She says that, "No one is to believe the media, the media should be censured and prosecuted for lying about things as important as hair color." Also, to set the record straight as a young child Kate's hair was extremely blonde. However over time it achieved a pale yellow/brown toning that would soften to ruddy blonde again after sun exposure. Now that she's dyed it so often, when the dye wears out her hair is a dirty dishwater blonde color. Thank you much for your time and interest.

-- Mikkii (vampyregyrl@tecinfo.com), January 16, 1999.

Uhh....so you are saying you are Kate Winslet's cousin? Yeah, and Marlyn Manson is my dad. It would be nice if Kate Winslet were my cousin too. But I dont come on a messageboard and imply that she is just so people will respect my post. But, if I am falsley mistaken than forgive me.

Laura

-- Laura (Roxygirli@alloymail.com), January 17, 1999.

Look guys, we shouldn't accuse Mikkii of lying about being Kate Winslet's cousin. If she says she is then we should respect that, and if she is not then we should keep that in mind, rise above it and forget about it. If she is not, it shouldn't be any of our business who she tells, and if she is, than we should be proud that Kate has heard of this message board! However, this is just an opinion and we should respect other's opinion's, too. I'm not defending anyone; this is just a thought. I hope everyone is enjoying 1999! :-) And Mikkii, if you are Kate's cousin, good for you! I think that's awesome. I'd love to be related to a movie star. ( I've been starstruck all my life :-) The closest I've been to a movie star was with Tom Arnold at Planet Hollywood. He's quite a nice guy! I hope you are enjoying your time with Kate, Mikkii. Just some thoughts from a starstruck girl who plans to be a movie star some day, as well... :-)

-- Kelly (foo@bar.com), January 17, 1999.

Well said, Kelly. And if Mikkii is indeed related to Kate Winslet, perhaps she could convince her to post a message to us.

-- CGK (cbroce@usit.net), January 17, 1999.

All of this is frustrating. I think you are ALL right. I think I share the same coloring as Kate which lends itself to many changes. When I was a kid I had blonde hair. It has darkened with age and is now a dark blonde color which can often be referred to as brown depending on interpretation. I often change my haircolor. I easily can achieve a red auburn color like she had in Titanic and many people think this looks like my natural color. And, when I lighten my hair blonder people also tell me that it look like my natural color. For the record I have always had fairly dark brown eyebrows.

-- tracy glenn (girl_678@hotmail.com), November 12, 2002.

For eveyone out there who is arguing about Kate's hair-color must be a very bored individual, Who really cares what damn color it is. She most likely dont even no any of you even exsists... Geta Life people

MY GOD, I JUST REALIZED I DON'T HAVE A LIFE CAUSE I JUST READ EVERY THING EVERY ONE HAD TO SAY ABOUT THIS GIRL AND I NEVER HEARD OF HER. SIGNED. I NEED TO GET A LIFE.

-- MICHELLE HACKWORTH (DJREDNECK123@WLM.COM), January 13, 2003.

hehe. I just read it all too and I have something to say. For all you that think her hair can't be blonde because of the... um nude scene in Titanic. My hair is naturally blonde, but the other hair isnt blonde. SO that clears that right up. she was a blonde

-- Someone from Somewhere (jody_h@hotmail.com), February 08, 2003.

Kate Winslets real haircolor is blonde. I know this for a fact because ive seen numerous pictures of her as a kid and growing up. So the answer is BLONDE HAIR!! Dont believe me???? Go to discoverkate website. you'll see a couple of pictures of her from childhood!

YOU ALL NEED A LIFE AND NEED TO MOVE ON please FOR THE SAKE OF ALL OF YOU ALL THE GIRL ASKED IN THE BEGINNING WAS A SUGGESTION FOR A FRIGGY HAIR COLOR U ALL PISS ME OFF BEYOND BELIEF

-- Alexa Ulrich (lexilu75@hotmail.com), April 27, 2003.

i don't know and don't care what her real hair color is but I did want to say that I know for a fact you can't always tell what a person's real hair color is based on her eye brows, body hair, etc.

I'm a redhead by nature, but my eyebrows are brown. People inform me I must dye my hair all the time b/c they don't match, but that is just not true. Believe me, if I was dying my hair, it'd be true red, not auburn.

-- none (lightchild_1@yahoo.com), July 29, 2003.

Who honestly cares? ;-)

-- Nobody You Know (ariachic1@aol.com), August 05, 2003.

Ok SHAUNA. My hair is naturally blond but my eyebrows are Brown. What does that say. Eyebrows do not tell all. I know this is a reply to an OLD post but your response sounded like you KNEW EVERYTHING so I decided I would let you know that you don't. Eyebrows, ESPECIALLY NATURAL BLONDES, rarely match the hair color....just so you know...Good day

-- Maya (onlywhatithink@yahoo.com), February 13, 2004.

yeah maya im w/ you on that my hair is naturally blonde and my eyebrows are brown so its not just some ironic thing its happens

-- kaley (kaleyizcrazy0807@yahoo.com), March 21, 2004.

If you want to know the truth Kate Winslet's natural hair color is BLONDE. But in my opinion no matter what hair color she has she will always be one of the most ugliest women on earth. There is absolutely nothing hot about her nor her hair. It is ugly and she has got one og the most ugliest and fattest faces to ever go down in history. She is Mad Ugly! There is no denying this! -- jennifer marus (jimvikjen@aol.com), May 15, 2004.

Actually for those of u trying to figure out her natural hair colour and have said look at her eyebrow or pubic hair colour these are not great indicators. Both Eyebrows and Pubic hair do not always follow the colour of someones hair. Someone can easily have natural light blonde hair and have brown eyebrows and brown pubic hair, while another can be blonde in all cases.

-- The Game (jimvikjen@aol.com), June 29, 2004.

get off it u guys! its only a color and her hair. her hair was like a deep cranberry red. just look for it in your local pharmacy or hair salon. go ahead and ask someone at the salon, they'll do your hair as close to the color if not exact to make sure the color compliments your complextion. maybe a more brown red would be better if you have a rosy complextion and if your too pale then maybe more red.. it all depends.. but its like a deep cranberry red color.

-- Kirsten (Kirstee1@aol.com), August 20, 2004.

Hey guys, it's me! Alright, so that this argument can finally stop I will officially tell you my natural hair color. Mikkii (yes! she's my cousin) was right, when I was young my hair was very blond. I can't believe anyone would say I dyed my PUBIC HAIR THOUGH! I am SO offended. Please e-mail your apologies. Anyway, Mark's penis was actually SMALL so I dumped him. He was mad that I dumped him (and cheated on him...) and thought that it would be funny to continue this terrible rumor of my natural hair color being anything BUT blonde. He knows this upsets me because it's been such an issue for me to even think of being anything but a blonde. Anyway, I should go, I need to get my beauty sleep.. Thanks Fans! <3 Kate oh...I almost forgot... I use Patti_on_a_bun@hotmail.com as an e- mail address because no one would guess it's me. It's pretty typical, huh? Don't forget to e-mail apologies.
