Does anyone dream of Titanic?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TitanicShack : One Thread

I've been having dreams of drowning(I'm afraid of water),and me as Rose in the boat and my husband as jack looking down at me, very emotional. Just wondering if anyone else has dreams.

I've wondering about that for quite a while. I has been almost 2 months since I first saw Titanic, and have absolutly no dreams about it what-so-ever. You see, I'm a dreamer. I dream about everything. It' s just really werid that I don't dream about Titanic. I can never understand my self. I dream about stull I don't want to dream about and when something worthwhile comes along, I refuse to dream.

Yeah the only reason I asked the question is I dream alot too, but never about movies!!! So I had to ask, I was beginning to wonder if I've become too obsessive about this movie. I even cried yesterday when Celine sang MHWGO on Oprah. I've seen it four times, I have the book and CD. And yet when I think my passion for this is over I dream about it.

Just a couple of nights ago I had a dream. I was on a train but it suddenly became a floating train, almost likea ship. And it was somewhere in Asia or South America, water and small islands around. And as I was looking around, water started to rush in. That's all I could remember the next morning. Rationally, I must hae been thirsty. Yet, the mind used something from the movie...

I heard of an interesting psychological phenomenon. Apparently, thousands of people (significantly more than 1500) are now convinced that they were passengers on Titanic in another life. If the weirdness surrounding this movie gets much worse I'm going to jump ship and go to Area 51 to look for UFOs with the SANE people...

I had a dream the other night (in which many strange things happened), but in part of my dream, I was at a summer camp, on the edge of an ocean, and I had fallen off of this dock, and there was about a 4 story drop below me to the gray water. And I was hanging off of this dock, just like Rose was hanging off the back of the ship (I even remember thinking that comparison in my dream), and some lady was holding me by the arm, just like Rose. It was weird. The feeling of that moment was like what I feel when I watch that part of the movie. Strange things, dreams. Other than that, though, I have not had any others...

I dreamed that I was given a replica of the "heart of the ocean" necklace. It was beautiful, and I was really excited. I started thinking about how I could dress up as 'Rose' for Halloween. I don't remember what else happened, but the dream was very lifelike.

I haven't dreamed of the Titanic yet, but I once dreamed I was a ghost on the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, and scared away a group of researchers examining the wreck!

After all, she was the ship of dreams.

Response to Does anyone dream of Titanic

I thought that I was the only one who has been having dreams about Titanic. I have had two of them. One, I was going to go see the movie, and when I did, I had to jump off the sinking ship like the people in the movie. I had seen the movie 3 times before and I knew that I would have to jump, but I sat down and started crying because the water was so cold and I didn't want to do it again. Then I couldn't find my sister and I was afraid that she jumped with out me and I would never be able to find her again, and I started running down the corridor yelling for help (like Rose). When I finally founder her we were ready to jump, but I realized that I could fly, and I wanted to just fly to safety, but I didn't know if I could carry Sarah with me. It was really weird. The second dream had something to do with Molly Brown, but I don't remember what it was. :)

Laura: No wonder you dream of the Titanic! You have a classic "freudian slip" in your text ("...founder her...")or was that intentional?

To all of us who have dreamed about Titanic may I refer you to a website on how to find out if you're obsessed with the Titanic.

http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Studio/2277/titanicpage.html

...and yes, I have heard the music in my sleep, and then I actually had a nightmare where I was trapped in the rusty wreck like a ghost who can't leave and I was just floating around. It was quite claustrobic.BTW, yes I think I am obsessed.

Take a look at this! You are not alone in your dreams!

I probably have had Titanic related dreams without realizing it. But, every day I am reviewing a different scene from the movie in my mind. Weird indeed.

-- Bob Gregorio (donthave@sorry.net), April 08, 1998.

I have this nightmare: I go to see a movie and it takes over my life for 4 months. I spend hours each day thinking (maybe feeling is a better word) about it. I see it 9 times at $7.00 a pop. I buy the soundtrack album (after searching 6 stores to find one in stock) and listen to it at home and in my car as I drive to work, which is often 200 to 300 miles away. Then I sell the CD because its languorous effect on me nearly causes me to get in a serious auto accident. When I do get home, I watch countless hours of Titanic TV specials, eventually sinking as low as to watch Oprah Winfrey because she has Cameron and Winslet on to discuss special effects. I even watch the Oscars and tally the number of awards the movie wins as if it somehow meant something to me! And to top it off, my viewing of the movie corresponds to my purchasing a computer and signing up for internet service. I spend maybe 200 hrs overall chatting about a movie that can be fully analyzed in one good hour. I come to a website called TitanicShack and alternate between expressions of love for the movie and hate for what it is doing to my life (such as it is). Then I even re-buy the soundtrack and start listening to it, as much as before. I download the sheet music to MHWGO and play it on the piano, softly so as not to let my neighbors know about my obsession. Then it's May 2, and I wake up. I take a long shower to cleanse myself. The water is freezing cold.....

I had only one Titanic dream a few weeks ago. I was on the ship as it was sinking, and I had my two dogs with me. I was about to get on the lifeboat, but there was only room for one of the dogs, so I had to choose between them. What a terrible decision! I was trying to decide but, mercifully, the dream changed to something else before I did. I'm just glad I didn't have to face them both in the morning after having chosen one of them! Somehow, I think they would have sensed my guilt...

-- Cindy (Cydwalker@aol.com), May 03, 1998.

Cindy, in case you weren't aware, there were several dogs on the Titanic (most died). A first class passenger and his 2 (?) dogs survived, but the other dogs were in cages for much of the sinking until were finally let out. One survivor recalled coming head to head with a dog in the water after the ship went down. Sorry to get off the subject! Dog&catluvers of the world, unite!

I dreamt once that I was in the buff and some guy I'd never seen before was sketching me. I asked his name. He said, "BobG. Got a dime?"

I'M TOTALLY LYING!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! *wink, wink, BobG* :)

I'm going to try to make this short, but I have tese really strange dreams in a row, first I'm about to board the ship. It was so real and exact and so un-like the movie. it was scary. later i dreamt i was watching the sunsut from the stern. i remember this well. then dreamt i was checking out the granmd staircase and i heard a loud crash. night later it continued and i was running past the gates and into the staircase again. then water rushed in and I held onto the angel on the stairway for dear life. next dream was i was in the water , i remember the cold, and the ship broke in half and i wayched the whiole thing. i haven't had any more dreams after that. spooky, i know, and I'm not that obssesed so i can't explain it.

I had one dream, after I took my Mom to see Titanic [she needed the 'moral' support to see it and since I had seen it once before, I was the perfect candidate:-)]. I dreamt myself into a scene of the movie--the one where Jack is handcuffed to the pipe in the master-at- arms' office and Rose has to find him. Then she goes and finds the axe and cuts the handcuffs and they wade out of there. I dreamed I was a part of that whole sequence (the water was really cold!). Only I wasn't a character--it was more like an observor--I could see them, but they couldn't see me. And no matter how hard I tried to warn them about what would happen at the end, they never heard me.

-- Nonnie Parker (x96smock@wmich.edu), April 14, 1999.

That's really strange Nonnie.

I've had so many dreams about Titanic...it's hard to remeber.....I'm not joking either... had one last night. It's not always Kate and Leo in it but the ship is always there and I'm always on it....knowing that it's sinking.I once dreamt that I was Rose....but aswell as being Rose I was observing the whole thing too.I was Rose and me and Jack were doing the flying scene. What was strange though was that we were doing acrobats on the stern and really flying....not just standing there with arms spread out.I've also dreamt that the ship was sinking and I was trying to help Rose and Jack get on the deck because they were stuck in the flooded machinery room(you know with the huge pistons).Last night's dream was very strange....I was with aload of friends and we were sort of on the Titanic but also in this hotel....the water was filled with bees and wasps and the ship was sinking but no-one could swim away because of the bees. And,not only were there bees....the ship was sinking at sunset....looking like the very familiar sunset from the flying scene!

Very strange although it can be explained...I have seeen the movie 41 times!!!

How about this for a strange dream. I never knew of the exact date the titanic sank or even the month. April 16 2003 I had a dream I was on a boat with really big smoke stacks that caught on fire. A friend mention to me when I told them about my dream that the titanic sank close to this date. All I remember in the dream is that we were all running up stairs to avoid the blaze. We sat in a room with cushioned seats, and I only remember two faces, one of a girl I went to school with and the other was unknown. What could this possibly mean? Im only 25 and never knew anybody on the ship, or is it just a big coinisidense?

-- Andrew W (enviroman99@hotmail.com), April 17, 2003.

I dream that I was on the Titanic, and as it was sinking I was on the back of the ship. Then it was all the way in the water.I got hypothermia when the lifeboat got me.I almost drowed when I got on the lifeboat, and when I got to shore I woke up.

-- Kelsey Ann Faaborg (gobigred122@yahoo.com), April 05, 2004.

Yes I had a dream once about the part when Rose jumps back on the boat and suddenly I was her and i felt the emotions

-- samantha jene fulton (samikiki@aol.com), April 29, 2004.

I don't know why and I can't explain this but every anniversary of the sinking, I always have a recuring dream on the 13th 14th 15th and 16th of april that I am a passenger on the Titanic and that I freeze to death in the water It really scares me and I have no idea how to make the dreams stop. I always dream that I am a first class male between 19 to 23, but that is all I seem to get I also wake up in cold sweats, and gasping for air as if I had been drowning.
