Yes, there are solutions to the Year 2000 non-compliant computer problems. They just won't be completed by the Year 2000. Read Edward Yourdon's book "Time Bomb 2000" for most of the answers you seek.

You ask,"Is it true that the problem of computer is solved?" Where did you hear that it was? The problem is not simply one of "computer". It involves many different computer types, models, and manufacturers. It involves many different programming languages (400+) and while COBOL may be 40% of the problem in legacy systems, it comes in 30+ "dialects". Date-aware and date-driven microchips are in millions of electro-mechanical devices. The electronic data interchanges (EDI) are practically infinite. The majority of private and public enterprises have either not started or have an incomplete, underfunded, under staffed remediation project which is typically behind schedule and does not have carefully worked out testing strategies or contingecy plans for systems failures. "Y2k Compliant" has no standardized meaning or criteria across jurisdictional boundaries and enterprises. As one participant at the recent February 19 California Statewide Intergovernmental Summit on Year 2000 in Sacramento put it,"California's governments have a year 2000 problem that cannot be completely overcome. This problem would be fixable, if we had the time, money and top level support. We don't, so it isn't." Yes, you need to read Ed's book!
