I know this may seem like a dumb question, but why is Molly called "The Unsinkable Molly Brown"? It seems familiar, but I can't think of why. Thanx! :)

Hollywood nicknamed her that, and made a movie about her and her Titanic experience titled that. No one could stop her, she was smart, had her own opinions, traveled the world yet settled her own little corner of the west, she could keep up conversation and dominate it with the guys in an age when women were supposed to be pretty dolls and pop out babies, period. European society loved her flamboyance, the American's (who had a way more rigid Society) didn't. So naturally, Molly hung out in Europe a lot. When Titanic was sinking, a steward picked her up and threw her in a boat, and before she knew it, it was being launched. It was so cold outside that the ladies wanted to row the boats, to generate some heat. Apparently, Molly and the guy in charge of her lifeboat didn't get along very well. By the time her lifeboat reached the Carpathia, Molly was in charge of it.

A&E just did a biography program on Molly last week. I had not heard of her before Titanic, but after watching this I realized what an awesome woman she was. She worked for women's rights, among other things. She was a tremendous spirit who contributed a great deal to society. Titanic was only part of her life - watch for A&E to replay this special. It's definately worth watching.

I recently did a research paper on the "unsinkable" molly brown. i read somewhere that she was asked how she survived the sinking of titanic and she replied, "typical brown luck... we're unsinkable". and as far as i know the name just stuck.

molly Brown is called that, because she did not go down with the Titanic, she kept others calm when they were on the lifeboats. She helped people get throug the misoure of the death of their loved ones.

She was called Unsinkable for a very good reason when she was on the life boat when the titanic was sinking she survived becasue she is unsinkable she is also a heroine because when everyone wanted to go away from the sinking titanic she took chacrge and had them row to pick up some more men like in the movie when she yelled "Your men are out there" she wnated to pick up the people in the water....
