In this day and age the public and private spheres are too difficult to define and to distinguish from one another + public art / private art - is there really a difference? Art is generally consrtucted for the viewing of a public audience anyway!

We are trying to explore some answers to the questions. it is not an easy one. But, if I can suggest we can consider Public Art any aesthetic realization in the public space that has as objective and meaning to co-operate in the PRODUCTION of shared aesthetic and social meaning in order to allow most people to be able to appropirate the public space. I run a Public Art course in the UK and if it is any help we find defining very difficult and confusing. We define it as any art form that tries to involve an audience. To complete the education programme students must involve an audience. The better the relationship the better the work. My own theory is it a meaningless phrase.
