The Song {piano solo of Rose theme - choice for 2nd soundtrack CD?}

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TitanicShack : One Thread

When Jack is drawing Rose on the couch, they begin to play a song (Sounds like a piano if I remember correctly) and then you see the starry-eyed gaze of Rose as it focuses on her face. The song is absolutely wonderful, and its not on the soundtrack, (I don't believe) Any opinions on whether it'll be included on the Titanic Soundtrack Vol 2? I noticed that there were other songs in the movie that aren't on the soundtrack---I hope they put them in. As for the quartet playing right as the ship is about to sink completely, the last song that they play is AWESOME and I'm really hoping that they do put that one on, too. As for the Irish music, they will hopefully put both Irish songs on it, not just one.

Response to The Song

Hi Steve, the last song that was played by the band in the movie was 'nearer my god to thee'. Bit of contension as to whether this was the actual song that was last played by the band in the actual sinking. Some thoughts were that the band played 'rag time' ie music that was gay and happy. Even so, it sent shivers up my spine, more so because the band must have known that they had very little chance of surviving because they played right up until the last minute. And none did survive.

Response to The Song

I know there is controversy regarding what was played near the end. I like to think it was "Nearer My God To Thee" and will always believe that. However, they could have been playing "Three Blind Mice" and it would not make any difference to me. The fact remains that Wallace Hartley and Co. were absolute heroes in this effort and never should be forgotten.

Response to The Song

The band members must have known quite early on in the piece that Titanic would founder. I can't help but admire them for sticking it out to the very end. In life they were unkowns, in death they are, and will fore ever be, hero's.

Response to The Song

I can't think of a better way for the musicians to meet their fate than playing the instruments they loved. At least while they where playing they were not focusing on the horror around them.

Response to The Song

I love "Nearer My God To Thee" and I also like to think that it was the last song played on the Titanic. However most Titanic historians will say that the last song played by the band was "Autumn". There are many conflicting stories on the subject. There were survivors that claimed to hear both songs as the ship went down, just as there were those who had conflicting stories on whether or not the ship broke in half. This mystery was solved with the discovery of the wreck, but I think the music issue will just have to be left as it is.

There are many rumors circulating around about what will be on the second soundtrack, if there even is one. I think Sony will probably end up issuing one, especially since the first one is doing so well. I have heard that it will contain all the the Irish music by Gaelic Storm, all the music played by the band, the piano version of "Rose" (which is played when Jack is drawing her), other missing music from the soundtrack, remixes of "Southampton" and other tracks, and music not included in the movie. This is just what I have heard. Most of it is probably just speculation, and I don't think anything definite has been put out about the matter.

Steve, the song they played when Jack was drawing Rose was a instrumental of My heart will go on. It wasn't on the soundtrack but you can find it in various web sites. Rose
