I am interested in knowing whether there are any intensive B&W training programmes located in Europe, designed for beginner to intermediate level. I have in mind a course that might last 2-3 months and provide a really strong fundamental grounding. Alternatively, are there any high quality 1-2 week workshops?

There is a very attractive soundng school on Cortona, Italy that I found via a search. Two week series of workshops during the spring, summer and fall.

I suggest you contact the tuscany photographic workshops at http://www.webservices.temp.it/tpw/ for information on their series of classes that run from July through august. They feature an international group of photographers for one and two week workshops in the heart of Tuscany.
